  1. Well I got the job. 2 week notice going in tonight. Starting May 3rd. I'll be on my way to becoming a nurse and start to enjoy my life more not working 7 days a week unless I choose to. I will be working out of the ICU at Basset Medical in Cooperstown.

  2. I knocked off the scary part of this spring project this morning. It only took about 20 minutes of swinging a sledge hammer to bring it down. I can't help but wonder how long it took my great great grandfather and crew to put it up in the 1880's. The foundation will make a nice fire pit. Now comes the time consuming part: cutting up the iron bands with a torch, and sorting the rubble to separate the busted blocks from the relatively intact ones.

  8. As a lawn guy... I hate striper kits. No lawn is the same. Humps, dips, valleys all effect the effectiveness of the kit. Set it to your lawn, your fine.

  10. Last year I posted asking information about becoming a CO. After a few months of debating with myself I decided that I dont have that type of confrontational personality needed for it. However the one thing I have always enjoyed was helping people. Ever since I was a kid I was always willing to lend a helping hand. Late last year it kind of hit me like a brick wall what it was I wanted to do. I currently work as a machinist in a factory. It pays good most of the people I can tolerate. Its just not what I want to do. I figured at 33 I better get it figured out. I worked in this field years ago and loved it but just didnt pay the bills being a non profit company. Well I have 2 interviews this week to get into the nursing field. I have the ability to take a small pay cut and make the move to a nursing assitant at a local hospital. My hope is that within 6 months of being hired on I will start taking classes to become an RN or LPN that they help pay for. As of right now I'm looking at the ICU, Special Care unit or ER as a spot to get into. However working in the hospital will allow me to figure out which field I truly want to be in. I have the support of my family and friends which helps. It's scary to think about switching careers but at the same time I cant wait for the next chapter of my life to start.

  12. That is a trip plow and the levers are used to control the depth. It looks like the IH one that I had for a few years. When you want the blades to lift, at the end of a row, you pull a rope, it trips, and the blades lift. Then you turn around, with them supported by the wheels, and pull a rope so they trip again, and go back down when you get to your next row. That plow was made for a non 3 point hitch tractor (most likely a Farmall H). They work very well, and still fetch a good buck. The disk looks like an 8 foot "drag" type. Those also often work with a trip rope. You pull that, then pull it forward or back it up to change the angle. For transport, the gangs are straight, and at the steepest angle for deepest tillage. On large plots, that style of disk is light years more efficient than a 3 point disk. No implement has suffered worse from the 3 point hitch than the disk. Most likely, the primary tractor on that farm was a Farmall H, which that disk is also perfectly sized for. I use an old JD disk just like that for most of my plots, and a 6.5 ft 3 point one for smaller ones or when I need to road transport. Both take the same power to pull, but the 3 point one takes double the fuel to get the job done (because it is narrower and it takes more passes to get the ground worked fine enough to plant).

  21. It looks like the disk is in decent shape. I don't see any broken blades and it looks like most of the cleaners are still there. As long as you don't need to take those on the road, they work great. One tip I will give you is to always grease it after you finish using it (and before you use it the first time). That way, the fresh grease will protect the bearings when it is in storage and it will always be ready to go when you need it. They will take almost a full tube of grease. Your 8n will handle that disk easily, I frequently use mine on my 8 footer. I use my 43 hp 4wd tractor on it in the spring, for the first pass. It is a bit undersized for that tractor, but the advantage of that is it lets you get the work done in less than ideal soil conditions (like a little too wet).

  22. I used the clear this year on a ski boot that separated. It held up pretty good then my other boot separated so I couldn't say for sure it is the best stuff in the world but it held up in snow for a couple of miles. If you use it I would highly recommend clamping the sole to the upper to keep it in place. I clamped it in two places and where I couldn't clamp I tied a light rope around the sole and upper it and drew it tight. Don't rush it and let it sit for a couple of days to let it cure. It is pretty pricy stuff and a 4oz tube costs the same as a 9oz. I should also add it it somewhat of a pain to get out of the tube.

  26. Saw my first tom at the house today! He followed two hens across an overgrown field. The hens were hanging tight to the cedars, looking for shade I assume. They made a big loop and made it back to my food plot. I was trying to stay busy working on wood and yard work, so I didn't stick around to see if they made it in front of my camera.

  28. I helped take down a 60 footer. Did it the same way. Two of us with sledge hammers. We did hook a cable to one of the upper rings and gave it some encouragement with a tractor. Just like chopping down a tree!

  39. I mentioned your plans to my wife who is director of research at Flaum Eye Institute, and she suggested that I offer the slightly different alternative of becoming an ophthalmic technician. Flaum currently has an internship program where they are training ophthalmic technicians - it turns out that they are in short supply and high demand. Given your background, it may be a way of meshing your existing skill set with a new career. It is patient care oriented in a clinical setting, and while a stand-alone career option, could certainly segue into becoming an RN. Check it out, and LMK if you would like me to forward you her contact information. She'd be pleased to talk to you.

  40. I don’t find hunting with a compound any great challenge. I started in the ‘80s with a Golden Eagle , shot it fingers ,off a flipper rest with a single brass pin sight, 2117s with feathers two blade Mangus . Killed a buck my first year and most years since . Used that set up 18 years . I can pick up,the bow after months and shoot just as well as ever . One neat thing about having worked for the FD is there’s tons of hunters , and each year ,guys pick,up a bow for the first time , many kill deer their first year . We shot at work and newbies are hitting a dollar Bill at 20 yards from the get go . I know many who don’t shoot their compound till just before the season starts or sometimes after , as they wait for the rut to,hunt . Most I know started bow hunting ,because its easier to get a chance at at bigger buck . Some of you fellas are acting like you grow your own Yew tree , flint Knapp the heads , and caught the fish for the strings .

  41. Bull. All bucks can get bigger racks if left to age. Where i hunt in PA, on gamelands, tons of hunters, with antler restrictions there are plenty of shooter bucks. I've all but stopped hunting NY stateland. Probably for the first time in my life, not get a NY bow license this yr and just concentrate on PA this fall its that good. Antler restrictions work.

  42. I say none of these mandated restrictions. I don't feel like being told how to spend my hard earned money. And that is exactly what Antler restrictions do. That said on private land if I was hunting on land other than my own and they said they want to focus on shooting deer with X properties and let those with Y walk, then of course you gotta respect the wishes of the owner. I'm all for self imposed restrictions, just not those imposed by the government in the form of ARs #ThankYouForLessOverzealousModding #WeDemandUnlimitedLikes #WeDemandADislikeButton
