  1. Spoken like a true Biden Democrat.....As if that is the only option. Funny you have no problem with importing 1/2 of Central America. Now-a-days, you are the only one that I hear supporting the idiot that you people voted in. He is doing a splendid job of destroying the country, which may actually be the goal of all you libs. But take a look at those polls you mentioned and try not to get too lonely. Even the majority of libs are starting to turn of stumbling Joe and his laughing hyena of a vice president. I'm thinking the only thing that is saving the guy from impeachment is the realization of who would take over if he went. Well now we have dead marines and stranded Americans who the Taliban will be using as bargaining chips for even more of our treasure (good job Joe). And yet even with the Biden socialist idea of paying people not to work, the border debacle and the socialist spending agenda, and the inflation, and the loss of our energy independence, and the botched foreign policy decisions and now the screwed up withdrawal from Afghanistan, and "Sleepy-Joe who spent the whole campaign hiding in his basement for fear people might figure out his senility, there still is 20-something percent of his dedicated loyal followers that can't see him doing any wrong. What the hell is the matter with you people? The fact is that it is not Biden's fault. It is the fault of all the people who voted for him without ever looking at what he is. You people and your sycophant mainstream media have become our biggest threat to our country. The creeping socialists. It became a very scary world in one election cycle and there are so many people who either don't see it or don't care. I'm sorry, I don't mean to be so blunt, but it sure does seem as though there needs to be some straight talk around here.

  7. If this is a competitive scholarships, I’d be surprised that someone would jump through all the hoops of the application process (essays, soliciting letters of recommendation, etc), not to mention have worked consistently hard enough to meet the qualifications to win the award, and then overlook a request to send the donor a letter. I’d bet that the envelope you mentioned was only there in year 1. Unfortunately if the scholarship committee fails to detail the background of the award it just becomes faceless name associated with the prize. I wouldn’t take it personal. Inquire with the scholarship office on whether the awardees continue to be advised to write a thank you letter if this is something that is important to you. I’m certain that the recipient would be all too happy to do so if offered the opportunity.

  10. We will never know how this would have turned out if we had just went about life as normal . Using simple precautions like washing hands , staying home if your sick or in a vulnerable group. Is it dangerous? Yes Should we take precautions? Yes World would also be safer if we didn't walk across the street, drive, ride bicycles,etc.....lol . We are freaking adult humans. It's about time we took responsibility for ourselves and acted like it. Pretty sure statistically we are more likely to die in a preventable accident than from covid. It would not surprise me if in the end there would not be significantly more deaths. Sadly , we would probably have lost even more of our elderly . Now we are are stretching it out unnaturally and we have to worry about the young because of new variants. At the same time we have changed the world , not for the better. And by the way I am vaccinated.

  15. Luberhill, you might not have received a letter, note or in person thank you but your generosity and community service speaks volumes. Hopefully your helping someone make a better life for themselves and there family present and future. The only negative that could come of this is if you are deterred from future generosity. I hope that doesn't happen, the world needs more people like you. From an average New Yorker like me I would like to say thanks!

  20. Since we do so much of our own sausages we butcher with Backstaps in about 8" long pieces (good for 2 people), and all the roasts we can pull out of the hinds and neck. Front shoulders and any remaining is chunked for grinding, placed in a big vacuum sealer bag and frozen for the Sausage making days. We went to all roasts for a couple reasons (sealed individually). First it is faster than making steaks or whatever but more importantly we never know what we want to make as the year goes by. Want a roast? there it is. What ground or stew, partial thaw and chunk or grind. What jerky, partial thaw and slice, Want steaks, partial thaw and cut. Just seems to work better for us.

  21. We use mostly ground as well as backstraps, tenderloin, and some steaks . Now try pressure canning ! The steaks and roasts turn into delicious tender meat . If your freezer goes out ( or just the power ). No biggie canned venison will last up to three years . No need to thaw out ahead of time either . I did two quarts of year old frozen steaks awhile back, I was canning chicken and just decided do a couple quarts venison. Mrs Nomad made some stroganoff and we added the canned venison, we were blown away with how good it was . My plan this year is to can an entire deer, minus backstraps and tenderloins .

  24. You’re missing out! Neck and shoulder are delicious. A slow, low temp braise will dissolve all that connective tissue while keeping the meat moist and flavorful. Even better if you go bone-in and save on the deboning work. I’m making an axis deer blade roast (bone-in shoulder) tonight.

  26. We have endowed lectures that allow us to bring in some big names to talk, and the family of the person who the lecture is named after is invited and acknowledged prior to the presentation. This is as it should be, in perpetuity. I'd contact the selection committee and ask whether they conveyed the donor's information to the student. In fact, the scholarship should be awarded in your (or your designee's) name. IMHO, your generosity should be acknowledged by the institution at the very least, every single year.

  27. Not only that, but every sparrow passes from here to eternity just exactly where and when He chooses. If you ignore that, you do so at your peril. Thanks for bringing up our Lord and saviour Jesus Christ again. There simply cant be too much of Him on hunting website, where the name of the game is helping the transition of living things from this world to the next. I hope you have a great hunting season and that the Man in charge uses you to assist in helping a few "cross over". Feel free to respond and "bump" Him back up on top to His rightful place and give us a break from all the political bs that seems to be taking over here lately with the lack of any coherent moderation. The fact that you think He doesn't have time to worry about what happens to a deer indicates that you lack some understanding of what He can do. I suggest picking up a Bible and reading it. Start with the gospel of John, then maybe go back to Genesis.

  32. I can certainly see your point. Appreciation goes a long way. As time goes on however, I’ve learned that needing that appreciation devalues the act in and of itself. The gift you provided and the opportunity it creates is paying it forward. It’s why I don’t loan money to people. If they need money and I deem worthy, I don’t expect to see it again. It is what it is. You may find peace if you just focus on what you did and know that it makes a positive impact.

  34. Don't worry too much about the afghan people who assisted us. We'll be doing good to even get our own people out of there. In fact, even that doesn't look too hopeful anymore. The time to remove Sleepy Joe and his giggling Vice-President was back during the election. We had a pile of voters who thought that the presidential election was a popularity contest and voted for a candidate that hid in the basement for fear his senility would become an issue. Well today it IS an issue and a deadly one at that. He has caused international damage that will take decades to undo. Who would have guessed that ignorant voters and our own communist Pravda could create so much havoc and internal strife. All I can say is what I saw on a lawn sign: "Don't blame me.....I voted for Trump".

Now he cowers away like the weakling he is , reads his pre written message and runs away without answering questions . He threatened that if we were interfered with it any Americans harmed he would strike with force ! Just like Obama, draws a red line in the sand and will do nothing !

  37. Yep I have a few that come early fri am or Thursday evening, have a drink make a great meal. Then it's mad chaos as everyone arrives after work trying to get their stuff organized and then the guy that comes in late.10 pm and now he wants to drink and play cards while the rest of us are ready for bed and a early breakfast.. the relaxing and socializing is gone with the Monday opening.. and all the hunters are gone by Sunday night.. guys use to take the week off and you would have 5 to 7 guys all opening week.. and a few more would show up for the weekend again Those that do take off usually kill the best bucks during the week on Tuesday or Wednesday. Seems guys are starting to take some time again off after years of just weekends ..makes the week fun

  38. Yup and idiots that believe what they are told and read think that CWD is the boogie man in the deer world. EHD has killed more deer in one year then cwd has in 50. And now there is a product high fence is using to fight off EHD to stop losses. With some success.

  40. there's a new product that's an electric silver skin trimmer but i'm not going to be the first to try it, but if it works... it's probably worth every penny. I encourage everyone to save their hearts. I can't think of how many I've left in the woods but have recently been making heart tacos and they're delicious. The liver on the other hand... well I tried but that's staying from here on out.

  42. Very lucky for me to have extended family that lived in rural wny. Silver Springs/ Castile area, and had the privelige to spend some weeks at my uncles farm, enjoying the simple, but demanding dairy farm life. I was able to learn to shoot a .22 and hunt chucks with my uncle after dairy chores, and as I grew up, my first deer hunting experience was on his land. My father joined a Rod and gun club, that was formed by his post WW II buddies( the greatest Generation) so that us kids, growing up, would have a place to hunt in the future. The club was jammed with members back in the 70's and 80's for opening day, and as the young guy, always loved the comradery. Now. some 50 years later, all those guys are gone, except a few of us "young" guys still hanging around, but times have surely changed. The traffic on the 400 was bumper to bumper with guys going out to deer hunt...Now, not so much. Simpler times perhaps, but good times. My main concerns now are for our countries future, and our son now serving in the army, and his comrades. Good luck to those who will head out this fall and please pray for our country..

  43. I frequently hunt a spot similar to the one illustrated and wind is an important consideration and a reason I do not use permanent stands. The first thing I check is wind direction when going in and that will determine where I will be watching the runs in the saddle. I have several spots surrounding the saddle where I can see well enough to shoot. I simply sit or stand quietly with my back against a tree to break my outline, clear the ground of leaves so I can silently and easily move to a comfortable shooting position if need be and watch, killed a lot of them using that technique. 49. While I "liked" your post I disagree with your not using the shoulders or neck. If you shoot 3-4 deer a year you're probably leaving 30 pounds or more (?) of ground venison to critters that didn't earn it. Man what a shame.......
