  5. Had a few new bucks this morning on cam. Thinking they may be starting to feed in the winter wheat. Killable just before 7am. But I am going to wait it out a bit more before diving in.

  6. Working on a home project the past few days. Had 12 pines taken down last October, they had to be climbed, and roped, I finally rented an excavator to clean them up. The trees laying there definitely changed the deer travel, and have not seen many bear either. I took the pines down to avoid the danger of them hitting my home. I have been giving this loaner prosthetic hand a workout, while operating this rental excavator.

  7. Ill never be able to afford a moose hunt nor do I want to pay and take my chances on applying for a out of state tags year after year . So I figured why not buy a shed, I built the base out of black walnut , stained it and got it hung up on the wall . I think it looks good keeping my bucks company.. oh and we made sure we left room for more deer antlers too .

  11. My boy got it done today, first hunt, first deer, saw a small spike and 4 does this morning that he opted to pass on, then this afternoon we saw 2 does and this 3 pointer. Shot with 6.5 creedmoor, heart shot, only went 40 yards. We were both in tears as he wished his grandfather had been there to see his first harvest.

  13. Here's the quick version. My buddy shot a buck last night. He recovered the arrow and thought the arrow struck further back than ideal. 20 yd quartering slightly away shot. Deer then ran straight into standing corn. He waited a few hours, looked and found blood but bumped the deer. He backed out. His concern with not getting it last night was the heat and coyotes. This morning he went back out at first light, but lost the trail in the corn. My son and I showed up to help. As we're pulling in, we see a dead buck not 10yds behind the back deck on the lawn. My buddy was a few hundred yds back and had no idea. It literally circled around and died right behind the house. Since it was recovered at that point, I showed my son the blood trail and what to look for and what to consider when trailing what could be an injured deer. All in all a great morning. I thought it was an 8 originally but it turned out to be a 7 pt.

  14. Good friend of mine oldest daughter (12) is after her first deer. I offered to take them over to my spots in the evening if they were unsuccessful in the morning. They had deer around them, but they got busted. We set up around 3pm this evening. Seen our first deer around 5:30 150yrds out, but something spooked the doe, fawn and spike, and they ran over the rise in the field. 30 min later we had a big doe feed over the rise only 110 yrds out. Following her was her twins, a small spike, and a decent spike. Lila's leg was jumping uncontrollably as they fed closer. Around 90yrds out the wind swirled and they got nervous. Spike turned broadside, and Lila dropped him with a single shot from a .243. The smile on her face is priceless.

  18. Went out for an evening hunt, nothing showed up on the kill plot, light south east breeze. Have to drive the family 6 hours to chataqua county today, so I pulled the plug at 645. My dad was at the cabin about 600 yards away making noise, working on the cabin. Walking down the wood road, stopped to look at our big plot which we mowed 2 weeks ago, there's a dozen deer in the field. This is less than 100 yards away from where I was sitting. Then I see a rack turn the corner, make towards the oak tree 15 yards away, so I freeze. He goes into the hedge row, and I hear munching. So I pull up the face mask, nock one, and slide over behind a big poplar. I know exactly where he's going to step out, but it's last light. Munching stops, I draw, he steps out, stares at me from under 20, and I watch the luminok slap home. Looked good, but didn't pass through. Saw him run and knock the arrow out on a tree. Thought I heard him crash. Back out, check again in 45, found the arrow, blood was excellent. Magnus Stinger went right through and poked out the other side. Got done butchering around 2am.

  22. Live from ambulatory surgery. Little squirrel was doing tricks in his bike back in April and landed wrong, breaking his leg real bad. See pic. Well, today they go back in his leg to remove the 10” bar and 13 screws. Poor kid messed up his whole summer and now his deer season. Here’s to a speedy recovery. Love you. 23. Pretty short and sweet story. Hunted Sunday PM with my son and we had an amazing sit. Saw piles of deer and even had some big bucks in the field. Unfortunately none came within bow range ( although my son said I should shoot them ) Got home and happen to check my cam and saw a giant bodied deer in a different field than the one we had sat in. I immediately wanted a closer look. I loved the fact he was a loaner away from all the herd we saw. Thankfully, the wind for that stand was perfect Monday so I hit it for an afternoon sit. The rest is history. He came out textbook the way he did the night before and I had a 17yrd shot. I waited in the stand for my dad and son to show up, and my son made short work of the track job. What an experiance to have 3 generations involved in! Thankful to punch a tag so early and be able to get some stuff done before gun season. According to the PA chest girth chart this buck dressed at 180# which was verified by an actual scale. Sent from my SM-G998U using Tapatalk

  30. Friends and I were practicing this weekend at our "range" we had just finished sighting a few guns in at 100 yds so started playing around with our bows at same distance. After a few shots we were dialed in enough to hit the bag anyways ..lol. I could hit the target if I pulled 20' over the target with my 60 yd pin.. Apparently 25' was too much..;) Not the 1st story I have involving a dead stick..

  32. Sounds Like an awesome spot to get started! I don’t change anything based on the wind but I’m mindful of it. I almost never leave the track the chance of him smelling me is a small price to pay for the information I’m getting from stying on his tracks. The only time I’ll ever leave a track is if I’ve already jumped him multiple times and he keeps doing the same thing. Last year I hunted a buck in the last week of season and he just wanted to lay down but kept picking those unkillable spots. After the 4th or 5th time of this I looped around above him and had a shot at him in his bed looking back on his tracks. Ended up not being big enough but my plan worked. 34. As the country is being destroyed in front of our eyes, the same people continue to spew what looks to me to be a twisted hatred for one person, the "Orangeman", Trump. Before it was to destroy him and his supporters at all cost. Now, while this seems to persist, it also appears to be to try and justify either to themselves, or others, the preference to watch this country collapse than have this man in office. I don't care anything about political party. I just wish I could understand how any average citizen in this country can be driven to such a personal level of hate that it would exceed their love of country. Would someone on this site who hates this man so badly please share why, or what he did to you personally to allow yourself to be so consumed, so I can try and understand.

  35. I lost Mac my Wheaten Terrier 3 years ago. About two years before Macs passing we brought into the Family Kit who was a white Lab. They became best friends. Even when Macs eye sight was failing they played and Kit was gentle. Just a few pictures of their life together. Two amazing dogs. No need for condolences we went through this just thought these pictures were nice to share. Mac's last night with us kit watching over him. Dogs rock!

  39. We moved this stand to the thick stuff, below a small ridge. Shots will be close. But this is where we need to be, based on everything we've put together. It's not perfect, as access, and wind direction is the key, but it's close. This may be my gun opener spot? A cut between two big THICK bedding areas, that we never set foot in. About 200 yards to the left from the top picture. If I don't get him from one spot, hopefully I will from the other? Time will tell? Or perhaps I'll shoot the first decent one that comes in? I was quite humbled last year.
