Back Tags

How do we get rid of this rule?  The Catskill Park and Nothern Zone are exempt from wearing them.  So why the rest of the State?

I dont mind wearing one but, twice now with my jacket when I lean back against the tree. It pops open the pin and have lost the back tag. Then had to go and replace it.. Happened one night I shot a doe. Hard to retrace tracks in the dark on dry ground!

I just clip it to my backpack. It doesn’t bother me whatsoever to “wear” it

During bow season, I put it on my back pack and then during gun season I put it on my camo orange vest. I know a lot of people don't carry a pack.  It is a pain in the ass.  But at least if it is on my back pack or orange vest it never accidentally goes through the wash.

I do the backpack too. It's my outermost layer anyway so it's never a thought.

It's very stupid that some places have to and some don't. It should either be all or none cause nobody can come up with any intelligent answer why it is the way it is currently!

Backpack here too. My outermost layer. And it's getting thick with all of my prior back tags in there.

Yup on my pack never had one come off, knock on wood. when I wore it on my back I would take a safety pin and pin it through the hole as an added precaution. I have lost them wearing them on my back but never on my pack.

Also works great for turning in tresspassers.

In my truck or clipped to belt loop. Lost one years ago off my back. Decided then back was not the place for it. Most of the time it is in my truck.

Like a lot of people have mentioned mine is on my backpack. Figure that is on my back anytime I am walking. Although the last weekend of rifle we always do deer drives and my pack always winds up in my truck since I am not carrying anything and I never remember to take it off my pack. So far that has never been a problem....

The jacket I wear mostly is waterproof and has no preformed holes for a tag holder , the place i hunt mostly i just dont wear it until gun season when i have a different jacket on. If i hunt anywhere else I'm not sure how I would attach it.

I wear a leafy suit so no issue sticking a pin through it. With that said, I am not a fan of back tags. There is no logical reason for them; enforcement is inconsistent throughout the state and we are the only ones in the country who have to have them. Utter nonsense.

The jackets i wear, have the holes for them, but I never wear it. I just put it in my back pack. If you get a ticket for not wearing a back tag, he either really wanted to get you on something or was just having a bad day.

I only wear mine when waterfowl hunting. Sometimes not even then.

What purpose are they supposed to serve? I don't see the point to them.

Man, people actually lose those things while hunting? I have had the same back tag holder for 27 years. My dad bought it for me my very first hunting season and I still have it today.

Depending on weather conditions, I'm always switching hunting jackets. So I just put my tag in, or sometimes on my fanny pack, that I throw over my shoulder. Never had a problem doing it like that.

Damn, that reminds me that I need to pick up one of them back tag holders.  I had been hunting the northern zone for a couple of weeks, so I did not worry about it.  I could not find one in the house last weekend, for my first southern zone hunt.  I ended up sticking my tag in an automobile insurance card holder, and hooking it to my jacket with a couple of safety pins.   It looks like they held, and should get me thru tomorrow's hunt anyhow.

The reason they require them in the Southern zone, but not the Northern, probably has to do with hunter density.  Tresspassing issues are a bigger problem in the Southern zone and that tag provides a means for others to record the number, much like license plates on cars.   Just knowing that they can be turned in by others for violations, probably causes folks to "play by the rules" a little better.  Up north, those "others" are so few and far between, that it is less of a factor.

I have one on my backpack and one on my jacket . You can get a back tag copy and not have to pay for it . I have never lost one in 52 years of hunting . When I see someone with a back tag I can at least be assured that he / she has a hunting license .
