If you see your deer go down, do you continue to hunt ?

So of course this apply’s  to morning hunts. Some time ago I started to do this when i would shoot a deer and I would see it go down, I would continue to sit and keep hunting. I’ve had very good luck doing this filling two tags many of times. Of course weather plays a roll in this to. 
So do you or will you start to field dress shortly after ?

I walked up to a buck i shot a few years back because he dropped just over a little rise,wanted to make sure he was there. I waited 10 mins before going over there. As i admired him two does walked up,only one left...That was sweet.

I get the guts out of them ASAP...Then if I have another tag I may just let the deer lay and get back in my stand..

If i can visually see the deer to confirm it's down I will stay in the stand and continue to hunt. I will then end up getting down a little earlier than originally planned to take care of the down deer.

All depends on whether I really want to butcher 2.  Most of the time one at a time is enough butchering work for me.

When I am lucky enough and a double happens , I’ll drop one off to have it cut up.

Depends, my dad dropped his buck at 7:30 and I was ready to leave so I got down, he said he wanted to sit longer and dragged the buck to his stand, so we climbed back up and I shot my buck 2 hours later. Depends on mood, and if I have more tags.

Never dropped one off for butchering, but I recall a couple of times having a double and 1 triple and regretting it when butchering.  That said, if you really wanted more venison, I guess take advantage when the opportunity presents itself.  I end up giving 75% of my venison away.  The ladies from my church cleaned me out a few weeks ago, so I will drop another one or two at least - I hope.

If I'm alone I'll call it a hunt. One deer is enough unless i have help. If I'm hunting with someone i will respect their hunt and keep sitting it out...

Solo I might stay in a while, with another hunter I will let him or her finish the hunt.  Regardless I would still stay in the location for at least another hour unless it is close to dark.

Sat. Morning is the second time i have ever doubled up. This time I shot the first deer around 7:15......saw it go down and continued to hunt without actually walking over to it. I knew another guy in our group had a buck down within sight so I went and took a peek around 8:30 at my deer and was going to sit until 10 when my party decided to meet up. At 9 I got a text a buck may be headed my way and 15 minutes later had #2 down.

They (Does) usually never travel alone and probably at this time of year a Buck is close by , I wait 15-20 minutes before climbing down from my ladder stand ! You never know !

I do if I want another deer. I always wait for 10-15 minutes before I get out of the stand-have a cup of coffee, etc. I do like to dress them out fairly soon after I shoot. If I want another deer, back to the stand, or if I would disturb others hunting with me, back to the stand even if I won't shoot another deer.

If I am done and won't bother anyone, then I get out as soon as I can.

I don’t even have to see them go down, if I’m confident in the shot. Especially if bow hunting I’ll stay in the stand, already have to do the work and make the mess cutting one up another isn’t that much more work.

You Risk the chance someone else may claim it , You never know  who is around you on public land  some guys don't even use orange  .

No matter the situation, if I see it go down I am going to confirm it close up. I have seen more than one downed deer get up and take off again. No matter the situation or weather though, I am going to get the deer gutted out and cooling as soon as possible. That thick coat holds a lot of heat in, even if lying on snow. Two reasons....first, the sooner the meat is cooled, no matter how cold out, the better, 2nd, it makes me barf to gut cold deer. Afterwards if I am morning hunting and tags depending, I will keep hunting, and on  several occasions have shot another deer.

If I shoot a deer early in the day I will field dress the deer 1st , then drag the deer to my stand and continue hunting.

Depends if im doing drives i just confirm its down and either wait for more if im the sitter or mark wheres its at while walking and go back and get it.  Usually if in stand ill only take one.  Have taken doubles from stand but its usually late in gun with time running out to fill tags.
