Hey.....I actually think Four Seasons is a lot like many of us here. Works hard, and the guy makes a good living doing something he loves. That in no way breaks any laws. Fills a nitch that has a demand. Even though some may not like what he does, it's an honest living!!! I'd love to be able to watch deer all day and get paid for it!!! Kills a couple nice bucks each year on public land. Enjoys family time. Seems intelligent enough. Just like many guys I know. Would I go on a high fence hunt? No. But I have no issue with someone who chooses to. It does not affect me at all, unless someone like Mr. Settle tries to BS me, into thinking he did something he did not. Everyone is different! If a person wants to spend big money, to kill a farm deer, that's totally up to them! Go for it. As for me, It's not about what I kill, but how I go about getting to that point. I truly do enjoy the preparation, planning, work, and effort, and maybe just a little skill, that I put in to kill a 100" buck! I'm good with that. I don't need a 300" deer on my wall to prove anything to myself, or anyone else. But that's just me. So if Four Seasons does ok supplying a demand........good for him! But he won't make any $$ from me. And I suppose he's good with that too.13 points

I purchased this mint old style CZ 527 about 15 years ago at the Syracuse gun show, it had a couple of things about it's design that prevented me from really warming up to it. One is minor, while I do like a detachable magazine I do not like the way it protrudes taking away from the trim lines this rifle has. Two the bolt handle was not designed for mount a scope low where it ought to be. I had a scope mounted with high rings and it did not line up right giving me a poor cheek weld. That being said I love the light weight and easy carrying trim stock, she is a tack driver and that set trigger is SWEET!!! So to make it right I found an outfit that makes a long low bolt handle that is easily changed out allowing me to mount one of my all time favorite scopes (Very Compact Burris Timberline) 4.5-14 nice and low with clearance to spare. There is also a fellow that will trim and modify the trigger guard group and use a three shot magazine making everything flush giving a big improvement is the looks department for my eyes. For now I will use it as it is and sent that trigger guard group in after hunting season. Today I hope to try out some 70 gr Speer dual purpose handloads and hopefully they group, I have a Chicken killing Fox around here and I am out for blood. Al7 points

Just a heads up for anyone looking, i always check my local Ollies (Johnson City NY) before hunting season as they usually get some stuff in. This is by far the cheapest I've ever seen, I got Scent blocker Protec HD jacket and pants for $80 ($40 each). They seem to be a mid weight wind proof soft fleece type with the carbon scent blocking. The price was so good I got my dad a set also. They had probably 20-30 sets medium-xl. (These are not my photos, i stole them off the internet)6 points

These "Holier Than Thou" AKA as real ethical hunting arguments crack me up, this is the age of instant gratification and easy-peasy, it is legal and is what it is. 75% let off compounds, crossbows, scoped muzzleloaders that can fire spitzer bullets with ballistics the same as cartridges, ATVS, tree stands and blinds with all the comforts of home overlooking fields of cultivated Deer food on private land, preserve hunting of everything. Who here can can suit up and track down a big buck in the Adirondacks and kill him with a stick bow and cedar arrows or use a flintlock firing patched balls? As the old saying goes people in glass houses should not throw stones. Al5 points

Great buck pics. Just went thru all ours and our best is a 3 pt. Guess I should just not even hunt then. Lol See it's for the challenge, the time in the woods, the stories. It's not for pure meat or antlers. I can buy those anytime. But I can't buy the experience. That's what it's all about. We all of course try for the best buck that's a no brainer. But if it meant my season was worthless cause I didn't get a monster buck I wouldn't do it. And I will say I def respect the hard hunt time you put in on public land it's impressive. But you do it cause it's fun. Cause if it was just about antlers you could shoot one in the pen behind the house from the bathroom window. Lol3 points

Thanks. Only two more forum bucks to go from last season and this thread can be closed. Here's a sneak peek at one of them...3 points

“ high fence “ is such a varied term . I have a friend who trained for months walking stairs and hills with a weighted backpack , for a HF hunt out West. They fenced in 10s of thousands of acres , and he walked mountains for days upon days never seeing a fence , finally getting one on his last day . Then my one nephew when he’s in Texas on business and has a free afternoon , will drop 10k to sit in an elevated , well cabin almost and shoot a buck when it comes to a feeder. Don’t see why I should care with either . Both are very successful bow and gun hunters in the traditional sense as well , but they have the cake to do both if they wish .3 points

Not for nothing but, I'd look down at someone less for shooting waterfowl with lead shot than someone paying to shoot a deer in a fence. I get it, you're somehow mingled up in the business so naturally you'll never admit what type of slob hunters you cater to most often. I don't really care what you do or how much you make doing it, if it's legal then go for it. But don't try to insult all of us by saying we can't kill a buck in a fence or we would jump at the chance, but since we all apparently can't afford it, we don't. I have hunted a high fence and it was a pathetic excuse for hunting. I don't speak for all of them but I know where I stand. Sent from my moto g fast using Tapatalk3 points

Again I love how you think all of us will just give up our own personal morals for big antlers. You truly crack me up . There’s way more to a hunt than big antlers..3 points

WOW. the other night i attempted a few jars of canned venison for the first time. It came out fork tender, similar to a pot roast, and such a good flavor. Here's what I did: trim the meat of all fat, sinew, silverskin, etc cut it into roughly 1" chunks I seasoned it with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and just a dash of chili powder in the prepared mason jar I started with a few spoons of pasta sauce, then a few thin sliced chiles (I used jalapeno), then added the meat to just about the top of the jar, then topped it with another spoon of sauce and some more chiles. sealed it all up and put it in the pressure cooker for a little over an hour. I just tried it for lunch. I may actually shoot extra deer this year just to make sure I'm stocked for this! And it won't take up space in the freezer.3 points

The property I have permission to hunt in the western Pine Bush, is being sold. I was aware it could be sold last year when I gained access to it. Thought it might even get sold before this season? Got the call last night that this will definately be the last hunting season, before it goes on the market. So kinda bittersweet. Last year in there, I was at full draw on what would have been my biggest bow buck ever. Easily a 150" class deer. But he hung up, at less than 20 yards, I couldn't hold any longer, and had to let down. He was gone. So maybe I'll get a chance to redeem myself? We'll see? There are some huge bucks in 'The Bush' for bow only. I won't hunt there unless conditions are perfect. The deer in there are far from easy to hunt. I know I am very fortunate to have the choices of properties that I have to hunt. A better, or less selective hunter than I, would likely have much more to show for it. As my bowhunting career winds down, my goal this year is to get just one more 'good one'. My best chance to do that is in the Pine Bush. Happy to get one more chance.2 points

Sorry to hear but glad your making the right decision for him and putting your feelings to the side for a moment. Some people just string animals along for the sake of thier own feelings and the animal suffers. Tuff decision but the right one.2 points

You need not explain to me, I get it 100%.... This is my point exactly! It's all about what makes hunting enjoyable to you, me, and everyone who hunts! We are all individuals, and as such, we all see and do it at our own level. We all have different goals. There is no right, wrong or indifferent!! Hold out for a huge buck. Shoot the first deer that ambles along. Or anything in between. It's really ALL good!!!! It's ALL just hunting!!! Do it the way YOU want, and let others do the same. No need to put one above, or below another, for doing it their way!! It doesn't matter! Just get out there and have fun. Isn't that what it's all about? If not fun, why do it??2 points

Start out close, and move the whole pin set. It's not uncommon for the sight to get knocked around, especially getting bumped down. There should be a screw that will adjust the whole frame up or down, and you'll need to take yours up. Start at 10 yards and work back from there. Not right now obviously, no drinking and shooting2 points
-
Remember the " follow the arrow" rule when adjusting sights. If you're hitting high, move the pin up... It easy to think.. I'm hitting high, so I'll lower my pin, but that's only going to make you shoot higher. If that was just about anything than JD, I'd join ya, lol.2 points

Mostly no light for me. I prefer to walk in the dark and know exactly where I'm going. But I hunt private land. When hunting public land, I use a red lense LED headlamp.2 points

The property is only ten minutes from my home. Closer than going up the hill to my own properties. So very soon, I want to go in there and make a couple more brush blinds, for differing wind directions. I have three in there now, spread out over the 40 or so acres. Along with a couple ladderstands that are not mine, but have permission to use. Had two cams stolen last year by local trespassers. So may take in a cheap cam, and hide it better? I found where the bulk of the people sneaking in are coming from. I used it to my advantage last year to get close to a great buck. But the best set up, is VERY close to a thick, nasty, bedding area, bordering a slight ridge. And I don't want to blow it out until I'm sure the bucks will be up and moving. So......I won't actually hunt there until at least late October, during the pre rut, when the bucks start searching for doe. That's my plan anyways. I think patience, caution, and paying close attention to detail is the best way to hunt this place. It's heavily pressured!!! No doubt that I could go in there and kill "A" buck most any time, there are lots of them in there. Had six racked bucks go by me the morning I messed up last year. But I'm hunting for perhaps one of the best 'The Bush' has to offer? Time will tell if I'm up to the task? Probably not? But this isn't my first rodeo either. Just getting the chance to hunt a true Monarch of 'The Bush' is an honor to me. Honestly........if I can just lay eyes on him, one more time within shooting distance, I'll consider it a draw, and be happy with that. It's not 'entirely' about the kill anymore with me at this point. But if the shot is there, I'm taking it! With so many other developments popping up in this area, pretty sure a developer with deep pockets will be the one to snatch it up. Unfortunately. But I'm still grateful for the time I have had. Already made some cool memories.2 points

I agree with Grampy on most of that. Don’t blame you, honest legal living even f I don’t agree. You make a lot of “guarantees “ though. I personally would absolutely still have a problem with it even only flatheads were shot. Also you guaranteed that these high fence haters never shot any record bucks, again wrong, I’ve harvested multiple p/y and one b/c. A free range spike is most certainly more of a “trophy” than a canned giant. Just my opinion. You are taking advantage of a market for instant gratification, good for you, just a not for everybody2 points

I am going from memory but I can't recommend the Ball Canning guide enough. It is very helpful becasue pressure canning is NOT the activity to venture out on unproven recipes. I use about 1" to 1-1/2" cubes of venison. pack in sanitized and warm jars (I like pint narrow mouth becasue it seems to hold the meat down well). I add in a couple whole cloves of garlic and about a quarter section of a small onion. dash of Cayenne pepper or a hot pepper (optional) I can't remember the amount of canning salt but that is added too. Pack tightly as possible to reduce air space and pressure can. I think it was 60 minutes for pints and 90 minute for quarts. No additional water required. It's simple, delicious and really makes a great use for lesser cuts of meat. SUPER tender and even heavy sinew cooks down and the meat falls apart with a fork. Good use for shanks and lower quarter meat.2 points
