  1. Not live Per se but shortly after my last text on here yesterday, I got one. Needless to say I let it lay and began the track at 4. Bumped it and stopped the track at dark. Called a dog which came this morning and we had success. Awesome guy and awesome dog. Tired as hell , story and pics later. My PB is down and at the butcher. Congrats to those that scored as well.

  2. I sat 4 hrs in the rain this morning. I looked down from my stand and could see antler tips poking up through the leaves. When I got down it was a busted main beam. It's not chewed at all but I'm still thinking this is from last year. I got down from the stand at 1130 picked up the busted main beam. Then started to slowly stalk my way out of there while looking for fresh sign. I jumped a deer it let me get with in 10 yards of it then took off ran about 30 yards into the thicket then started running back toward me. I tossed on my tactacam Drew back and shot the deer at about 3-4 yards. I had no intensions of shooting another doe right now but it's been years since I've shot a deer from the ground with the bow. I was very pumped. The deer went 20-25 yards and piled up. It ended up being a small busted up spike. I've had a spike and 7pt fighting on camera a lot the past couple of weeks I'm wondering if it's the same spike and the buck busted him up.

  4. This was the first time I sat these woods this fall due (and only the third time I've even been in a stand) to all the warm weather, busy at work and the Covid......I had a small buck go by me around 8am then this buck came at 8:20am. I stopped him at 18 yards with a grunt and made a perfect shot. I let him go for an hour just to be sure. He only went about 75 yards before piling up. He dressed out at 152lbs. 5. Low for the year temp wise was uneventful for the early morning. All day sit was mandatory for where I was and the wind got better as the morning progressed. I get ansy after about 3 hours which is customary but I settled in and was good. At 12:45 this guy made his way up the small ridge at 30, but began to work away. I have no idea why (no scent or calls used) he turns and walk dead at me. He gets to 15 and shakes, wind is perfect. I draw on the shake and he comes two more steps and quarters too. I hate this shot, both too steep and quartering too. I held steady and was comfortable and let it go. waited til 4, tracked till dark. Had blood all the way. Was a liver. Bumped him last night, but Winston made it happen!!! Can’t thank D&W enough. Awesome guy and I know he went through some shit and never said a word. Made my year and season.

  8. Took the dog out instead of deer hunting today. Ended up with 2 pheasant and 1 woodcock. Only bad part was pulling 40 ticks off of her at home. It was so bad I went out and bought tick shampoo. Cant upload a video of the pup retrieving a pheasant though

  9. Full moon that’s why you didn’t see any …… I just washed some of my hunting clothes ,along with my wallet . Tip of the day if you put your paper pistol, permit in the microwave , the photo melts . Money dries ok though .

  10. Saw a spike this morning then this small eight with a broken main beam came in and bedded at 20 yards. I was tempted as it would have been the first deer at my daughters new property and first with the longbow I built but decided to just watch him , it was fun he slept on and off for an hour.

  11. Had planned on a full day sit but it was so slow, went home and cooked pot roast. Lol. I got about 3 days to get it done this week. A whopping 2 sits for about 6 hours so far. But the pot roast is good.

  16. First time I got myself in this situation. Shot a small buck, and tracked it for way longer than it should have been. Bits of lung, bubbly blood. The shot was quartering away. Tracked for 650 yards, with copious blood, ending with the deer tumbling into the creek, which was very high because of recent rains. I had to wade downstream - super sketchy- for another 150 yards to find him beached up on a shallow gravel bench. A one-lung hit.

  17. I shot a spike this morning about 10 minutes before I had resolved to pack it in. I have been bowhunting for 11 years, and this is only my second deer with a bow. I bow hunt exclusively state land, and between work and kids I only get to hunt one half-day a week--some weeks not at all. I know a lot of guys would pass a spike, but I was absolutely shaking with excitement.

  18. My nephew Dom with his first bow kill. Was a emotional day. Dom was determined to get his first bow kill with his dad's bow. My nephew Adam, Dom's and Kayden's dad, passed in 2011 in a house fire. So proud of theses boys, and I know there dad is too.

  22. In at point stand. This 8 is killing me. He is now known at the "Check Buck". Cause I feel like I am one move from him all the time! Wsw wind so stand I was in yesterday the wind isn't good but this one is and it's 400 yards up trail. So I have to go way around the property to get to it. Look down the trail and there he is headed towards the stand I was in yesterday at about 250 yards. I have 30 yards to get to my stand so I wait until he is more in brush and make a move. I'm in hoping he comes back this way but doubtful.

  24. Third time is a charm . Pretty much , due to my age , I don't go out unless one of my sons are with me . So today was my 3rd time out with the bow . My youngest son and I did an afternoon hunt . I was in my stand in the thickets by 1:45 . Can't see into the neighbor's field but I have had action on my trail cam in that area . It gets boring after a while of seeing nothing . At 4:45 I spotted a buck coming through the thick area heading for the field . I drew my bow and when the buck hit the opening , I hit the release . The buck took off like a rocket . I didn't wait and got down to see if I could see it running through the soy bean field . Nothing . I had left my bow , backpack , etc in the tree stand . I saw a few specks of blood and started looking for more . I called the neighbor who owns the field and left him a voice message . I lost the blood trail that was specks on the soy beans and back tracked . I cut up a hanky and marked the soy beans . It took me a half hour to find the deer . It was a 7 point buck . Not a big rack but a nice size deer . No shut-out during bow season this year for this 80 year old fart . I'm trying to get the picture I emailed from my phone to myself of the buck laying in the field so I can post it but it still hasn't come through . Took a couple pics of the deer in my sons driveway when I dropped it off .

  29. Glad to see one of my target bucks still in the area after finally getting after them and a new player came on the scene. The bad is it looks like a few of my favorite places are a little wet at the moment.

  30. Hunt #17. Scrapetree . 3-dark. Didnt go this am in rain and 20 mph winds. But hit the afternoon. Felt deery for sure. Had two big does cross the trail at 70 yards (in pic little hole up the trail) Then one right in from of Roadkill stand on the way out. Too dark to tell if buck or doe had to wait 10 minutes for it to clear the field before I went thru. Pulled cam card at scrapetree where I've been getting pics of the 8 and where I saw him 2 nights ago at 125 yards. We are def playing cat and mouse. He likes my scrape and dripper I have there. Visited it twice the other night. Only have tomorrow to hunt and wind is moving to the west so gonna have to change stands a couple hundred yards away.

  31. I've been bow hunting every year since the early 80s. The last few years, I've had my share of medical issues too. And I say every year now, this will probably be my last year. Only because I find it painful and difficult to shoot my bow now days. But even on my worst day in the bow hunting woods, I'm thankful to be there. Even on a day like today, when I saw zero deer. On the drive home, I thanked God for just giving me the opportunity and time to be out there. It's not about what I kill anymore. It's about being an active participant, in something I truly love. I have always told myself, if I ever lose that love, I'm done. My body will give up before my love dies. That said, my flame for hunting does not burn near as brightly, as it did when I was younger and healthier. But it does still flicker. I pray the flame never goes out completely.

  33. Bump for picks reminder. Get em in before midnight. Next week is gonna be a stack em week. Just gotta pick the right person. I think Lawdwaz was paid off to tell people he's sick then went out and dropped a slammer as we all had him in our bullpen for next week. But it's only conspiracy theory at this point. Lol.

  36. Good luck to everyone today. Halloween has always been a special day for me, but unfortunately I’m still not up to getting out. Crossing my fingers that my health improves and hopefully get out one day this week. Hoping to see some big boys hitting the dirt today.

  38. A nice friend gifted me a package of walleye, so i made my Grandfather's famous dish: Fish with Bananas in a Cream and Butter Sauce. Other than my sauce falling apart, it was delicious and brought back lots of great childhood memories of fishing with him and providing a meal for the family. With homemade wine, natch. 41. After 20 years on the WWW, I am tired of arguing with guys on this topic. You can kill a deer with an air rifle, 22LR, or a varmint rifle. But why do something that you know has a decent risk of failure or worse crippling an animal & feeding coyotes? As a boy my father always told me "use the right tool for the job", and that mantra carries over into hunting as well.
