  1. Just picked up my Rifle Buck this weekend. It's been a long 5 months for me but I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out. Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk

  2. So, we have a bit of a rainfest going on this AM. What are some things we can do given the rain? We’re midtown and have to be at the Natural History Museum at 3. we had planned the boat ride this am but no go on that. We had an excellent meal at Quality Meats. The corn creme brûlée was out of this world. Let alone the steaks. Some girl from Belarus was our waitress and she was awesome.

  4. The Cohocton was low and clear this morning, not the best fishing conditions but I managed to catch a few browns. I was staying low and crawling up to the holes. Things were pretty slow until about 10am.

  7. I hope to pull the barn frame down by the end of the summer. I completed the dismantling of a twin, slightly older barn a couple years ago. I had removed all the siding, and cut out many of the diagonal braces at the corners of the timber frame. Before I could pull it down, it fell on it's own. I was at work at the time and my kids were in the house. They said it sounded like two semi trucks had crashed on the road in front of the house. Looking out the window, they saw a huge cloud of dust. When it cleared, the barn was down, with 4 layers of asfault shingles on top of cedar shakes crushing it as flat as a pancake. The barn I am taking apart now has a lean towards our house, so I obviously dont want a repeat of that previous performance. I currently have it cabled to a tree out back, so it cant fall forward. When I finish removing all the siding, my plan is to pull it down towards the back with my largest tractor, and a snatch block and cable to double my pull force. We will definitely make a video of that.

  8. Not this old white boy...I get too jervous and nerky... Without the pattern spread of a shotgun, I may very well have missed all of the 100 plus turkeys I have killed..Hehehe.. Just as a note, rifles ARE or have been legal in a number of southern and western states, Virginia and Alabama being two of them, but still shotguns are the overwhelming choice of nearly all serious turkey hunters....

  10. I knocked off the scary part of this spring project this morning. It only took about 20 minutes of swinging a sledge hammer to bring it down. I can't help but wonder how long it took my great great grandfather and crew to put it up in the 1880's. The foundation will make a nice fire pit. Now comes the time consuming part: cutting up the iron bands with a torch, and sorting the rubble to separate the busted blocks from the relatively intact ones.

  15. Dude - we went to Eataly yesterday for lunch. Our family is Sicilian. We were awestruck. Unreal. Also slightly embarrassed at just how good it was compared to our family recipes and home cooking.

  17. Lots of stories for sure. Last night, we were out playing cards with some family and friends. My aunt told a story of when her and my uncle were kids (he still lives next door to us). They were out in that barn after dark, and he told her that it was haunted by the ghost of a neighbor. He hung himself in it, sometime around WW I. My dad has told us about that many times when we were kids. The guys name was Jake. I wonder which beam he used, looking at the picture in my previous post. You can still see half of the "3" board up near the peak in that photo. That is all that remains of the "1883" that was cut out from the siding boards up there, marking the year that my great great grandad built it. I was too scared of heights to climb up that high and remove it gently, and it broke across the middle of the 3 when I tried to pull it down. I did salvage the "18" in one piece. I used that, along with a "20", on which I tried to match the font with a jigsaw, to mark the year that my new pole barn went up. I also used many of the old hand hewn posts & beams, and siding boards to make a hayloft and workshops inside the new metal pole barn. It is sad to see the end of those old barns, but a lot of them will hopefully live on for many years inside the new metal structure.

  21. Out on a scouting/listening mission this morning and I haven’t heard this much gobbling in 20 years. There’s gobbling and n 360 degrees from close to as far as I can hear. Let’s hope they stay this vocal until youth season! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  22. Gobble was fairly close.. probably 300 yards at the most. Gobbled probably 30 times. I'm only 5 miles from the farm I hunt, and its overrun with birds. But rarely or never see or here a gobble at the house. Lots of birds around from July to November, but rarely see or hear a spring gobble.

  23. I can still get on, but the site had a major remodel a few weeks ago. I don't know why you would bother though. That site is largely dead, in my view. I think most of the former members migrated to nygunforum.com a while back.

  25. I don't if you've seen it, but Stanley Tucci has a show on CNN where he explores and eats his way across Italy. It's a fun watch. https://www.cnn.com/travel/article/stanley-tucci-searching-for-italy-restaurants/index.html

  26. Sure is, I think they changed the name four or five years ago but I'm not sure. If you head to the Hudson Valley during Apple picking season checkout Grappa in Warwick. Orchards are 5 minutes away. Wife and I always crush the oysters with caviar and tuna on top. The olive oil company right next door is pretty damn good to.

  27. Another huge factor is the nice weather is coming ,the virus won't live in sunlight and vitamin D deficiency season is almost over. Let the kids play some damn baseball outside in the sun for cripe sake.

  32. Two reasons really : #1) it's a destination feeding plot, I just want them to Chow down spring and summer and fatten up. Definitely keeps them in the area. #2) Frigging turkeys go bananas for it all of May! Mainly it's just to feed the deer.
