ATV 400 OR 500 Buying New

Like to get some ideas on purchasing an ATV.  Looking at 400 or a 500, non China series /  4 WD..  Power steering  is a strong consideration.   If you had 5 grand or little less to spend, What would you buy?

A Yamaha or Honda product. Check out both and choose which one you like best. Pass on the polaris and arctic cats.

X2 for Yamaha. I have a 2003 660 and a 2009 450. Nothing but normal preventative maintenance.

3rd vote  for yamaha. I have 4 , 2- 700’s a 450 and oldest is a 01 400 and still runs like a champ. Only problem you may run into is finding one, from what I’ve read a lot of atv dealers are sold out .

I can't say nothing bad about my 2015 polaris sportsman 570, drags ,deer,logs,ice sled and kids around with no issues . It serves my purpose well.

I love my can am 1000.  It’s an animal.   No issues with it 3 years in.  Not sure if that’s in price range in the 400-500cc.

Honda rancher no doubt, with a straight rear axle and foot shift, they are bullet proof and can be had for under $6k. I spent $6200 on an electric shift for the wife three months ago. 
nothing wrong with Yamahas either, don’t get in the Chinese ones no matter what anyone says.

Yamaha, we’ve had a bunch over the yrs and currently have 3. All have been great!

I like my Hondas better but certainly would not turn away a Yamaha either. Myself I like the 400 -450 better than the 500's and bigger only because the 400's fit in the back of my pickup's  6 1/2 foot bed.  I dont think there is anything the 500 can do that the 400 cant do. If you are using it on your own land and not transporting it everywhere you go then by all means get the 500 . 

But hunting in Maine always presented a different problem using my 4 wheeler to retrieve a deer thats way out there in the big woods. You could not get anywhere near the deer to drag it out with the 4 wheeler. Most of the old logging roads are grown in and the woods and swamps are tough to penetrate with a 4 wheel machine . I solved that 3 years ago with the ultimate big woods machine .

Rokon Trailbreaker 2 wheel drive mototrackor. This thing will go through places that you would  not think it was possible . Dragged a buck out last year from 1.5 miles right through the thick whips , mud holes , crossed 3 brooks with steep banks, and right through real thick hemlocks with tons of blow downs

450 Yamaha kodiak. I was a Honda guy for years but they’re archaic. I was a soldier axle and foot shifter type for a long time but I’ve put over 10k miles on my last 2 Yamaha’s and they’ve been bullet proof!

I’ve looked and read up on the rokon’s and was shocked when I saw the price. They are super cool though.

I love my Grizzly 550, but that's a bit more than 5k.  I have had 0 problems with Yamaha, only time she didn't start was when the factory battery died 5 years in.  And trust me, I am not gentle with her.  I believe she is 9 years old now....?

I just bought a 570 Outlander for $6,900 2021 model from artic adventure in Ulster County if that helps. No power steering fyi.
