  1. Beagles are one of the most refined hunting breeds in existence, they have been specifically bred to hunt Rabbits and Hare for hundreds of years. I have had other dogs breeds that could put Rabbits in the bag for me, I had a pretty fair English Coonhound that was good and even had an Airedale that put out quite a few for me but all and all a well bred Beagle is the way to go. There are nuances within the Beagle breed relating to size, nose and speed, I hunted mostly Hare on snow so I wanted Beagles up on legs and that had cold noses. Al

  2. Not many things more fun than good Rabbit-Hare habitat, a good Beagle and a suitable firearm. Want to get a newbie or kid hooked on hunting there is nothing better than starting them out on rabbits. Nice little film than explains things, brings back many good memories for me. Al

  4. Filled the cooler out on Chippewa. The wife caught a few absolute giant jack perch. Biggest i have seen maybe ever. I’ll measure a few tomorrow. We weighed one that was over 2 pounds. Little white and yellow tungsten jig topped with a minnow. They hammered it all day mostly.

  5. I have 4, out with 2 now. Otis and Crazy who is almost 7 months. Each hound has their own strength, Chester is a great bed hog. Bones is a great jump dog, Otis is all around great dog. Still figuring out the puppy. I had so much fun yesterday with them, better than sitting at home.

  7. Got my two shots last year. That's it for me. No boosters, no more shots, no nothing. If I get the virus so be it. That will boost my immunity against further infections. Next thing you know, it will be advised to get regularly scheduled boosters. Nope. No thanks.

  8. Quick check in. I’m totally fine and have been. I can’t believe I have to isolate/quarantine because I had a stuffy nose. Also this is the 2nd time I have had “Covid” and no one else in my house got it.

  9. It seems like current guidance is that if you think you might have it, you probably do. Since we're all smart enough to stay at home so long as we're symptomatic, the doctors and/or state don't need to be involved unless you hit a snag, such as trouble breathing. This means that the actual number of infections is likely to be much higher than is being reported, but honestly what does it matter if it's limited to mild disease? The biggest issue IMHO right now is the staffing shortages at local hospitals due to employees coming down with some crud, be it COVID, or flu, or RSV. I'm truly hoping that this round exemplifies for some of the doubters that nobody's making stuff up - folks are working hard to get us out from under the umbrella of COVID, and when the situation improves, the numbers will reflect it. I just feel bad for all the health care workers who lost their jobs to the mandate, when it likely wasn't called for or necessary, and is contributing to the current shortages. Just my 2 cents. Rob - feel better. If you're going to get it, now seems like a great time since we're between seasons. I've been licking doorknobs, but thus far can't catch a break lol...

  10. Growing up, my dad and I ran UKC beagles, and went out with the dogs dang near every weekend. I still miss hearing the dogs run. We rarely shot a rabbit, mainly to keep our spots flush with them. A few years ago when I went home, we broke out some of the old home videos of hunts, and immediately I could recognize each dogs voice, "There's Bear" "Strike Maggie". Beagling also meant I got to grow up with a colorful cast of characters at the clubhouse. A lot of those old men would "hire" me to handle their songs, meaning I got to wade into the briars to catch them. When we got back to the clubhouse they'd pay me with a coke and cheeseburger. A part of my childhood I cherish and will never forget. Thanks for sharing.

  12. Even our RN daughter who was all onboard with all,the protocols said she’s not getting anymore boosters . She’s is concerned though what the hospital may require down the road . Typically it takes 10-15 years of development and testing phases to bring a vaccine to market ,not a year . Many won’t buy a vehicle or gun in its first model year, they want to wait till any bugs get worked out , but sure give me that one year vaccine , and please sir may I have another ?

  16. So you get to your hunting spot in some mode of transportation (Truck, Car, UTV, ATV ) Load a rifle, topped with an advanced optic, with ammo tailored to killing deer or some state of the art compound, crossbow bow, carbon arrow tipped with a mechanical broadhead tailored for killing deer. Spray your custom fauna matching camouflage clothing and boots with scent killing spray Climb into your hunting blind, climber, hanging, ladder stand, sling, that's overlooking a food plot, with a crop that's tailored for antler growth and nutritional value. Scan with a non reflective 3x coated lensed non fogging binocular and/or use a laser rangefinder that'll range within +/- one millimeter degree of precision Yet a trail camera is the straw that broke the camels back ? Does a trail camera give you an edge, of course, just like all of the other equipment your using, otherwise you wouldn't be using them. Yet even with all of that advanced equipment, there's no guarantee that you'll be successful and you STILL need to be out in the woods to harvest the game that's being pursued, no matter how many cameras you have out. If the cameras targeted and killed the animal, that would be a different story. We have a couple of cameras on the land we hunt. We hunt pretty hard and still see maybe one quarter of the bucks that we see on the cameras. Trail cams or not, I'll be out there opening day.

  28. My hunting partner’s grandfather’s favorite story was of Pancho, his beagle he lost one Sunday hunting off route 17. He had to get back to the Bronx to open the store Monday so left and couldn’t return until Wednesday. He pulled up Wednesday evening and parked the car in the same spot he left from Sunday night. He opened the door, stood up, yelled Pancho and the dog jumped in the front seat before he finished calling his name. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  29. When I was a young boy (many years ago) my dad took me rabbit hunting with our beagle. I got hooked the first time out. I have owned beagles ever since. I hunt deer, turkey, ducks, geese, and rabbits. Rabbit hunting with my 3 beagles I have now still remains one of my most enjoyable types of hunting. In addition cottontail rabbits make terrific table fare. valoroutdoors.com

  31. We had a "Babe" too. The only dog that we had that would never run a deer, except once. Dad tells the story of jumping a deer right in front of the dogs, the pack took off, and Babe just looked at the deer and then dad. He said "You might as well go too", and he said she ran it for about a hundred yards before she came back. She wasn't the best hunter we ever had, but handled well and was a great easy going dog.

  32. Hunting rabbits with a good beagle is as much fun as you can have in the woods! We always had a couple good ones when I was growing up. The best of them all, was Babe. She never failed to put rabbits right in front of me! She also had a certain dirty look she would give me if I missed! I miss her to this day. I gotta get out soon and do some rabbit hunting! Haven't gone in a year or two. Will need to get the ok from my doc. Or just go, and keep close to the juniper bushes? Our secret!

  33. I’ve kicked brush with no luck and I had a german shorthaired pointer that couldn't care less about fur. But i went with a rabbit dog once and it was the most fun hunt I have ever had. So much action. Id say rabbit hunting is may favorite with quail next to it. Not to mention rabbit meat is great.

  41. The whole conversation is odd to me really. I can see both sides to a point. On one hand a guy can plant food plots, put up a redneck blind, sit in there with the heater on watching 300 acres of corn and shoot a deer with a $3,000 rifle and drive over on his UTV and drag it out. Yet a camera is an unfair advantage?? Give me a break. If I were to come up with a rifle system that were computer driven somehow to never miss a shot, hunters would buy it up faster than I can get them. Same with crossbows, look how that market is taking off in NY. Are fish finders cheating also? How many of you would be ok with banning them while fishing? I see no issues with trailcams. I have 5 cell cams, yet I did not tag a buck this year. Most hunters could run 20 cameras and still not be able to piece together anything meaningful. The cameras are as much for entertainment than anything. We have debates on here constantly about "if you don't want to use a crossbow, then don't", "if you don't like the early season then don't hunt it" but now it's suddenly ok for someone to tell someone else if they should be allowed to use cameras? Is this sentiment a worry that the neighbor might find out about a big buck hanging around? In my opinion, we have enough BS in NY, trail cameras don't even register for the list. 42. I find my game cams more entertaining than TV, but I am perfectly ok with not using them during hunting season. I have certainly used them to my successful advantage, but like to think I have enough woodsman/hunter skills not to need mug shots of my victims.

They said to call back on occasion and see if any show up. They also have a good supply of other maple sugaring equipment in stock right now. Hopefully the contact from @BowmanMike comes through!
