  1. My lifelong friend and hunting partner called me this morning. Said he needed a hand with something. As always, I told him I'd be right up. When I got there, he said come in for a minute. When I got inside, he gave me this!!! It's my buck from last hunting season, done up with wood from the farm. And the scene replicates the spot where I shot him exactly!!!! I was totally blown away! The pictures just don't show the detail. Down to the epoxy that looks like wet ground. Even the old tires are there! His wife told me he's been working on it for weeks. I knew he did the euro, but had no idea about the rest. He said he wants to start doing euros for people next year. And wanted to try something different. I think he got it right! The buck itself was very unique. Never got one quite like it before. But with the way it's done now, it is by far my favorite! I am so fortunate to be blessed with a friend like Gary. He got this buck out, and hung, skinned, gutted, and cut up for me. As I was going through a serious medical issue at the time. I was not even supposed to be out hunting! So this means so much to me. He even hand made me a picture frame to go with it!

  5. The tires are from old hay wagons and such. Put there decades ago by my partners father when he was running the farm. Thank you all very much for the nice comments!!! I am so proud of the mount. It now means more to me than any other I have. Being it was hand made by my lifelong friend. So much time and thought went into it. We rode the same school bus together. Have hunted together all these years, and have not ever once argued over a deer! We encourage each other, and share in all the up's and downs of hunting, and life. We are truly like blood brothers. I'm so fortunate, and blessed, to continue to share a friendship with such an awesome guy. If any local guys want to have a euro done next year, let me know? Will be able to do dips and custom work too.

  11. Aluminum 14x7. 2680lb payload rating - 3500 gross. My old trailer wouldn’t fit the new toy and I was tired of looking at rust - hence aluminum! I still wanted one small enough to fit a garage and that could be moved by hand (no tandems). My big debate was aluminum floor but I convinced wood flooring is a better choice. will be by shortly Paula. Lol

  13. Place an old junk camera and enclosed blank SD card loaded inside with "sneak thief" dust and let'm have it!! That stains one's fingers and can't easily be washed off....they can explain every place they go why their fingers and hands are stained bright purple: Visible Stain Thief Detection Powder Great for home or work to catch thieves Depending upon your particular situation, visible stain detection may be preferable to ultraviolet detection in some cases. Visible stain thief detection powder is used to trap thieves by applying to objects likely to be stolen. After the protected item comes in contact with the skin, the body's amino acids react with the powder, creating a highly visible purple stain which can last up to several days.

  14. Where we found first blood on the right. Where we found the buck laying under the tree. About 20 yards or so in the real of the hunt. Yes. We do have a little seng growing in the area.

  18. Very nice Grampy ! These are the things that makes a deer a trophy regardless of the size of the rack. Its the friendship and memories of the day that counts the most . They are Priceless !

  19. I have a few manuals, I like comparing load data between my Speer , Hornady , Swift and my Lyman as the Lyman has a broader bullet / load information . Plus I like to use hardcast bullets and Lyman cover’s load data for them in spades . And just remember , Its easier to ask forgiveness than permission ….

  21. I was fortunate that my immediate area didn't get much snow. I am reading horror stories of slush on a lot of lakes, making machines tough to use to get on and off the lakes. The lake I fished this weekend, I just walk out on and pull my shanty on a sled. Just three inches of hard snow and a little slush at the bottom. nothing at all to worry about. It was windy at times, but manageable in the shanty. The fish were way more cooperative than they have been. I brought home 10 perch and 10 crappies to fillet up for a few dinners.

  23. Had an amish gentleman stealing the " shorts" off a pile of firewood. Came.home one day to see wagon wheel marks going up the back way to my house, went by the pile where it seemed shorter than day I left , called the neighbor I was give the pile of short to to ask if he took some ( as he usually took the pile on weekends) he told me no he hadn't. So I set up the next am back inthe brush with my shot gun ant at 630 am.here come a amish with a wagon wh o drive in and n proceded to fill the back of the wagon. .. I jump out asked what the h ell he was doing a d he told me the owner siad he could take them, I'm the owner and I don't think you ever asked. Nor do I think you told you family you were coming up here to steal wood. If I ever see you here again you won't be leaving... he asked what I meant by that , so I siad I have a gun and a backhoe , figure it out!!... never saw him again..

  24. Between me and a friend we have 50 acres of hardwoods on top of a mountain near Swain, NY. Part of his property border an old abandon overgrown farm field of which he owns five or so acres that border the edge of his woods. The field is actually much larger, but his strip goes out 300 yards from the edge of his woods. The soil in this area is absolute crap. You can't dig 2" without hitting a rock and even then, the soil is rock hard and clay. I do have ATV's, a rototiller, a Jari brush mower and even a 30 HP small tractor with bucket but it would be a bear to get there. We would like to put in a food plot. Mostly for his dad who has hunting over ten years with us and never gotten a deer. I have the following questions and would appreciate any tips. 1. I know I need a soil test. IS this something I can do on my own? I do have an analytical background and understand basic lab procedure. Isn't this just test pH and N,P,K? So, there should be reagents for each? I read the Whitetail Institute test is BS. Is there a decent lab to use or figure out how to do it myself? 2. Do I really want to use Round Up to prepare soil? I know the manufacturer says it's safe and the lawsuit you see on TV is a joke, But.......Is this something I want to put in my food chain? 3. Do I buy the "Special" Deer Food Plot Seed or are there better and cheap options? Clover is obvious choice but what else? Gun season for old man only but I don't mind growing deer either. Not a lot of food sources in area locally other than acorns and grasses 4. Tractor supply (TSC) for fertilizer and what not? 5. What implements do you recommend for preparing site? Even if I have to buy (Under $500)

  25. All you guys that live too close that big city have a warped view...ha.ha.ha.. I'm not sure I'm a fan of this. Not that it matters. To each his own. You could sit in any of mine anytime because you're a good guy. At least according to some of the guys on here;)

  28. Such BS! the bad guys will still have their guns. Nothing will change there. I'm believe that we have the perfectly incorrect view of gun laws in this state. it should be more like Texas or Alaska or others. Put a firearm in every law abiding CITZEN'S hand then see what happens? If you were a bad guy, would you rather hold up a bar in NY where you know the probability is that you are the only one in the room with a gun or in Texas that as soon as you pull out your weapon, there will instantly be 75 guns pointed at the back of your head.

  30. Grampy, that is so awesome. Not just a beautiful mount but it is always awesome when your truly best friend shows you exactly why he is that. Damn good people left in this world!

  31. Hotel costs can add up no doubt but you could also buy a camper, or other options that don't just get this to you for a week, and an unexclusive week at that. But for me, that just screams no. Above all else, look at the rules and info, and pay less attention to what the rules are actually about and more to the narrative of the rules this person put out. This owner would NOT be good to work with. Micro-manager to the Nth degree. My experience has taught me when they put out this type of detail and requests, and rules, it's usually not a good situation to involve in. The owner to my Ohio lease called me yesterday - for no reason. Just to say hi and see how my hunting partner was doing with his pneumonia that he had, and to shoot the crap. He's going to call me as soon as they get bare ground so we can shoot down and look for sheds. The owner who posted the above - he'll be calling to complain about a micro-management issue.

  32. He would jump from the history of the Bison to his hunt. The chapters on the history of the Bison in the US while interesting it was also a bit boring and lacked the ability to hold my attention. The chapters on his hunt where generally interesting and well written in the same manor he narrates his the meat eater show. In the end I got only about a third of the way through the book before it was time to renew the loan and I simply returned it instead. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  39. A lot of guns are very hard to find right now. If one is looking for a specific gun, sometimes only 1 or 2 may be found even during an internet search, if you’re lucky. I know myself that 4 of the last 5 purchases that I made, I was only able to find them out of state online. Some guns are readily available, while others can be rarer than hens teeth.

  41. Like Grouse said, have it shipped to your FFL. I’ve bought 2 firearms from Cabelas/Bass Pro. Both of them were shipped to my LGS with no problems. I wouldn’t hesitate to do it again.
