Skillet
Hard to believe it was 18 years ago. I remember I was in history class when it happened. Sad to see only a few flags at half mast today. Seems like a lot of people forgot. Where were you when it happened?
Bionic
I was in English class, and I will never forget the girl next to me who broke down crying in fear.

turkeyfeathers
I was getting ready for work. Wife was just about to take our then golden retriever in for hip surgery 30 minute drive there at prime time and said barely saw a car on the road. Oddly it’s our current golden’s birthday today. #neverforget
virgil
I was at work in a hospital on the upper east side of NYC. Like every other hospital in the city and surrounding area, we quickly mobilized in anticipation of mass casualties. It was heartbreaking as the day went on to realize that there weren't any coming in as there were few survivors.
grampy
I was at work in a commercial print shop, and heard it on the radio. Everyone gathered at a computer monitor to watch it unfold. We all felt the fear, confusion, disbelief and anger, that morning. I remember it like it was yesterday. Later that afternoon, I got word that my maternal grandmother passed away. From natural causes, not from the attacks. We had a moment of silence throughout the school district this morning. Never Forget.
DanD
I was also in English class when this started. Every classroom turned on the TV for the rest of the day. No school work was completed that day. At football practice, the coaches tried to keep things normal, but that wasn't happening. They let us out 2 hours early from a 3 hour practice. NFA-ADK
I watched as the 2nd plane hit live on a big screen TV. Never forget!
MPHunter
I was at work on a conference call with an architect whose office was in the area between the WTC and Empire State Building. They told us plane flew into a building near their office and dropped off the call. We turned on the TV in the conference room just as the second plane hit and couldn't believe what we were watching. No work got done that day. Edited September 11, 2019 by MPHunter
Steuben Jerry
I was at work and watched in horror on the internet. We invited most of the employees to rotate in and out of our conference room to watch on TV for a bit.
BizCT
I was a senior in high school in Putnam County, so about 40-50 miles away. School went into lockdown, but we stormed out anyway and drove to the closest friend's house to watch on TV. Later that day I went to work at "Ames". It was like a Caldor basically. Anyway, it was dead that night with barely any customers. I work in NYC now and this morning i passed a firehouse doing a salute. Every year on 9/11 the streets seem quieter than a normal day. Pygmy
I was at my desk in the office area ( prairie dog town) of the Research Facility I worked at... Everybody was glued to their computer monitor.. When JFK was shot I was in 7th period study hall in junior high....The teacher was a prune faced old lady named Mrs. Barrows who was rumored to come into the local stores high on vanilla extract on occasion... Eric J
I worked downtown.... Broad Street to be exact. Once the second plane hit and the lights went out for a bit... We knew it was terrorism..... We had to wait out the two collapses.... and could feel the rumble.... couldn't see or Breath outside... once it cleared up a bit some of us Jersey guys walked to the Seaport and manged to hop on a police boat to get evacuated over to Liberty State Park. Not a fun day.... A day I will Never forget. The one part I remember most is the Smell..... I never smell it anywhere anymore.... but if I do... it will bring me back. The smell of Burning Metal and concrete... That's the only way I can explain it. God Bless America!
Nomad
Thanks for, starting this . I was working out at the Y saw a high rise fire on the TV a bit later all the TVs had it on and I went up close to see what was going on, that was the start of a long day , funny part I can’t remember if I worked that night . Today I did a special workout with my 45 pound vest in honor of those who climbed up those stairs . 12 minutes Jacobs Ladder , 20 on stair master , 10 on treadmill . That’s an extra 2 minutes on the ladder because I had to wait for someone to walk near me so I ask them to take a pic ! Never Forget !

wooly
I was doing a plumbing side job in Springville when we heard the news over the radio. Homeowners house was still in rough stages so we didn't have any TV or internet access, but we sat there on his stairs listening to the cordless Dewalt boom box all day in complete shock getting zero work done. Hopefull , sad, scared, and angry all at once, even before we got to see the actual severity of what had taken place.
Robhuntandfish
i was at work filling in for staff and driving a bus. Was waiting at a RR track and cell was going nuts over and over and of course cant answer. Then heard it on radio. Got back into office and stole a TV from training room and saw the second plane hit. Same as everyone shock, horror and disbelief but knew we were under attack. Since im one of the emergency team at work, we discussed closing early etc some people came and picked some people up but we stayed open. Mostly i think its because no one really knew what to do.......just shocked and worry. Later that evening after watching the news all day and night - about 10pm went out on my back deck and had a beer- could see every star in the sky and remember thinking how odd it was not to see a plane anywhere. The world changed that day for sure. Edited September 11, 2019 by Robhuntandfish
Nytracker
I had just got done work 11-7 was standing at reloading bench when wife called me and told me to turn on the TV. Turned it on just in time to see second hijacked plane slam in to tower #2. I was so pissed off I didn't sleep that day I was glued to the tv. terrorists haven't forgotten and neither will I. They celebrate it like a holiday. Edited September 11, 2019 by Nytracker
tarheel95
I worked in midtown. Wife worked right next to the Staten island ferry. Second plane flew right over her head while she was getting coffee and into the south tower. She still freaks out during flyovers at sporting events. She was on last 4 train out of lower Manhattan for weeks. We met in midtown and then walked downtown to Union square to pickup my friends fiance who just started working at NYU the day before. Walked all the way from there to a buddy's apartment at 92 and CPW. First sat down to watch the news at about 2pm and realized the scope. Family friend was on first plane. High school classmate at Cantor Fitzgerald. Tough day to remember and grateful that I will be home to hug my kids tonight. Moho81
I was in college but didn’t have any classes that day. I slept in a bit, woke up and went to the gym without turning on a TV or listening to the radio. When I walked into the gym every TV had the news on with the video of smoke pouring out of the first tower hit. I decided to hit the treadmill and plug into it with headphones so I could hear what was going on. I did so just in time as the second tower got hit and I was completely confused as to what was going on. I remember thinking for a while that the same tower got hit by another plane. I think I lasted maybe 20 minutes on the treadmill before I gave up to go home and watch the news. I remember coming home to a voicemail on the home answering machine from my sister who lived in Dallas at the time just asking if we where ok and for someone to call her back. Being the stupid college kid I was didn’t call her back and figured my parents would when they got home because why would she want to talk to me. Little did I know she was worried about us even though we are on the other side of the state from NYC. I’ll never forget that voicemail and not calling her back right away she was truly worried about us. I went to work later that day and we huddled around a small TV we pulled into the kitchen from the break room so we could watch. It restaurant was dead the whole night we only had a couple of tables come in. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Nomad
Thanks to those who’ve responded, I’ve enjoyed ( doesn’t sound right ) reading your responses ,especially those who were in NYC . Watching on TV is one thing , I can’t imagine having been there.
WNYBuckHunter
I was working on a couple of computers at Blue Cross Blue Shield in Syracuse. People started milling around the office and talking about something going on in NYC. Once I heard a plane hit one of the towers, I went into their break room with them and watched as the second plane hit. As I was finishing up what I was doing I heard the Pentagon got hit. I walked back into the break room just before the first tower fell, and thats when I left and started back to Rochester. I listened to the radio as the reports of Flight 93 came across and the second tower falling. The reports coming over the radio were chaotic, and it was hard to tell what was real and what wasnt. When I got back to the office, not much else got done that day, and everyone went home early. It sure doesnt feel like it happened 18 years ago.
