Some species of chestnut, probably american but it could be a hybrid or chinese. Is that mechanical damage or a canker on the  base of the tree?

You don't see as many chestnut trees anymore! We used to call em paw-paws. And you don't see too many bucks like that either!! What a stud! And those stickers got me drooling!!! Hope he stays on your property in the fall. And hope he falls into your hands!
