Sat for a little over 2 hours last night. Thinking a drizzly day and midweek might change my slump, and alas even the squirrel sightings are down. I haven sat probably 7 times since opening day morning and havent seen a deer since. This is the longest void I can remember in 20+ years of whitetail hunting. Is it 10/1 yet?

Is it 10/1 yet?  I’ve had  25 sits on two properties ,mixing up morning ,afternoon, normally high probability spots , good view spots, and thick nasty spots .

I’ve had 25 sits on two properties, mixing up morning, afternoon , high probability spots that produce year after year with , spots with views ,and  ones in remote nasty thick stuff .

Ive seen two doe on each spot none I could get a shot at .

Two cameras ten days one spike ,which right now I’d shoot in a heartbeat .

Well no buck.  Coyotes beat me to his bed and  not by much.  Maybe an 1hr at most.  Ended up walking 2miles took a little bit to find the track. Maybe 3 fingers wide I've seen bigger.  He was with a fawn and doe based on the other tracks.  I found 3 beds on a ridge but I didn't jump them.  I could see where they got up and were feeding away.  Well that buck took me right back to the same spot as the last time.  I hung put for a couple minutes  did a couple soft grunts and scrapes the ground.  Then I went in after him.  Slowly made my way to a spot I could cut him off if he was in there and wanted to escape leaving his track in the process. Well when i got to my spot i noticed running tracks a couple yards away.  So I went to look and it was what I believed to be his track.  So I followed it to the open woods where I just came from and thats when I noticed 4 different sets of coyote tracks running behind him. I called the track there.  As long as the coyotes dont get him I know where to find him next year.

1st picture is his second bed I back tracked his running tracks to make sure he was bedded in there.  The last photo the white pine in the back is right where his bed is.

Other picture is of a stream on my walk out and a screen shot of my walk. Hes bedding in the little clearing by the pond on the bottom left

Nice yote!  I used to have one of those .450 Bushmaster. Accurate and nice gun to carry , real light and short.  Only got rid of it cause I figured I didn't need 6 deer guns for a three week season.  Lol.

Official GTG today. Did some serious walking today trying to get the herd on their feet. Got them moving just not the way we needed them too. Thankfully I had a solid crew in the woods with me. Only deer I could have shot was a nice 2.5yr old buck at about 8 paces. Great time gentlemen.@moog5050@turkeyfeathers@The_Real_TCIII 0f266202f08fee2bf497158b1effc4a7.jpg&key=a421c453928c6b57c8f850fa23247c642a3068d37e76bdf618e272cf24428a6344c4baa6f3a58f1a286baf47b166ff71.jpg&key=da42c3598bd6b483cd80f001ff3c96f9c95e01317b5496c57eb2dcb86896203a

Got out at 2pm sat until 4 it was really nice out 40* light west wind a few flurries no deer seen. I’m starting to understand the wind on my property I think any west wind and I don’t see anything south or southeast I see them or that’s the way it’s been this year. I’m going to start keeping records of wind and sightings. I did see a bunch of snowshoe hare tracks.

It seems like the less the hunting pressure, the more important the wind factor.  I always try to plan my hunts up north around the wind direction.  I try my best, not to spook the deer off the limited area of private land, that I usually hunt (about 200 acres on the NW corner of the 6.5 million acre Adirondack park).

That gets tough, when I am up for a long stretch of days.  It shouldn't be an issue for me this weekend, with just a day and a half of hunting time.  I know where they bed and I know where they feed, but the wind will determine where I will be.
