In the process of building another bow rack to donate to the archery club for their Tradition Shoot in August. I think this will be the 5th or 6th one I've done. Each year I try to do something different but this year I went basic. I still need to do some sanding and then 3-4 coats of wipe on poly and it will be ready. I used cherry so I plan on just clear varnish as I love the look of clean cherry.4 points

We talk about the strength of a big buck that has been hit but still goes on and on taking us to places we have never been before. Well this story is about a little chipmunk that had his back broken by a nasty cat. I came upon him this morning and wondered what to do. My neighbor who is the owner of the cat said just put him down and burry him. I did that and a few hours later after washing my car i poured the bucket of water over the critter to make sure he was dead. Well out came his front paws then his head to say" hell i'm still alive' I took him in and gave him a nice cosy place to try to make it. He lasted few hours then passed. A big heart for a little fellow for sure!4 points

Wow! This is great information everyone! I really appreciate all your help. I will definitely try out some of your suggestions. As I mentioned, we both started bow hunting last year. My daughter is the one that really wanted to do it, so I decided to go along for the ride. After the first deer sighting, we were both completely hooked! It has been so great doing this with her and sharing the same passion. Thanks again! Dave4 points

Look neat,go early like now , bring your daughter , offer to help . I live east of Rochester my self , and hunt south of here on prime farm land , wife's from one of the largest farm families in Ontairo county , so I know a few farmers. Dispite what you'll hear, there are still farms that will let People on, I knew three near me, down to two as yesterday I saw one posted for the first time . If I knew you personally I'd give you a lead but I value my standing in the area to much give the nod to a stranger . Ask around everywhere , work , your Doctors office , your kids teams , you'd be surprised who, owns land and would let someone they know on, more so the a door knocker . My nephew's financial advisor has 1,500 acres and my nephew is the only one he lets hunt it. He got access when he mentioned he was going out deer hunting the next week end during one of their meetings . I also know of a couple of teachers that hunt a nice piece of cover along one of our farm fields. The land owner doesn't hunt , one of the teachers taught his kid , and the land owner liked the idea of a couple teachers he knew and trusted hunting it and keeping the local trespassers off . Farmers all either hunt or have friends and workers who do, it's one of the landowners with the least chance of getting on really . My split broilers are starting to smoke pretty good gotta go !3 points

Well I'll tell ya you can't go wrong with a Stihl...yep expensive but look at it this way...you've read my post...So you know I hammer equipment, Im a weight challenged 58yr old woman carrying that big back pack around up and down the hill with bad knees. 2 miles, a couple of times a year....So obviously not that heavy or hard to use and starts on 1st or second pull. If that doesn't convince you nothing will...lol3 points

I've had a bunch of boats and if I had to pick one for those purposes it'd be a v hull with an outboard, io will also do but I'd prefer outboard3 points

Doesn't get much better than a river smallie on the fly rod !!! Good luck !3 points

I took the kids down to the farm last night and finished up the mowing of the plots we will be putting in brassicas. Thursday they will get sprayed. While I was mowing one of the plots I decided to let Haley hop in the drivers seat for a bit. Shes been doing a good job mowing the lawn this summer, so I figured she could handle the big tractor as long as I was right there to guide her and shut things down if need be. She was a little scared at first, but did great and loved it. What 12 year old wouldnt get a kick out of driving a 90 hp turbo diesel John Deere?3 points

It's a hell of a lot of fun too some of my favorite times on the stream is wet wading for smallies Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk3 points

A 5, 6 OR 7 Weight rod will do fine for river smallmouths.. I see no reason to go heavier.. Use your trout rod... Hellgrammite and crayfish patterns do well on a dead drift... Most any substantial streamer pattern or a muddler will work cast across and down. Popping bugs or hair bug patterns work well on the surface.3 points

I pounded out some boneless chicken breasts , coffee rub , stuffed with diced chorizo and cheddar cheese. Rolled and wrapped with bacon and threw on the smoker. Corn , edamame as a side. Mama was pleased to come home from work to dinner3 points

Don't go knocking on doors wearing Camo . Wear regular street clothes and look neat . When they say no , thank them anyway . You could also ask if any of their farmer friends have a deer problem . They might drop a name .2 points

Stihl.... I just bought my wife one to use in the horse barn and she loves it.. I am amazed at how powerful it is for the size and wait.. Also has the "easy start" which is great... Think we paid $279... We have gone thru many home depot/lowes units.. this one will last a long time!2 points

He should just listen to the officers. Why try and go against their commands? Like anything good is going to come from this. When a LEO tells you to not try and escape prison, you should listen.2 points

I'll second the Stihl recommendation. I don't own a blower, but the saws and string trimmer have been hassle-free for years. Tip: Use quality oil for the premix, and fresh ethanol-free gas. Treat a Stihl tool right and you'll never have to buy another one. Just my two cents.2 points

I go with Stihl all the way. I bought this one probably about 7-8 years ago and haven't had to do a thing to it. http://www.stihlusa.com/products/blowers-and-shredder-vacs/homeowner-blowers/bg50/ I think you can get it for around $140 I've got a 20 yr old Stihl chain saw that gets heavy use. Also haven't done a thing to it. They just work. All the time.2 points

Speaking from experience (unfortunately) be careful when landing them not to over bend the rod or you will break off a section of rod. I think Bass or Pan fishing in a nice open area is the best place to learn.2 points

and accelerate on the forward stroke. Don't get caught up with how far and trying that really long cast. work towards that perfect "curl" of the line, even if it's only 40 feet. Distance will come on it's own. Part of what I like about stream fly fishing is the "stalking" component of it. Gettign close. laying the fly right where you want it and then the strike.2 points

What adult wouldn't get a kick out of it? I would sure love it. Although I saw a guy on Facebook do it on a riding mower, that looked pretty fun. haha2 points

Leave some flour out in a sealed container for months on the counter. A surprise awaits you, LOL. Cooking kills the eggs, most of the time. Old unopened boxes of cereal can can yield some interesting wiggle little things. Our root cellar has moths in it this time of year. The cool air attracts the little buggers. Bats in the belfry, LOL.2 points

The permathin based sprays like Sawyers are oderless and keep bugs off clothing and you get tick protection too. I worry about bugs in my taxidermy and let one of the bug bomb canisters go when I go away on trips to zap any critters hiding in the cracks.2 points

Pantry moths...They lay eggs in all grain products hatch larva that then go to moth stage and repeat. They enter in you food.Flour, pasta, pet food.2 points

I just got started fly fishing three years ago, so my experience is limited. But my Orvis 5 wt. Works great for river smallies and spring trout. It handles great and it's what the Orvis guy's suggested for newbie's. Perhaps some day I might even get somewhat proficient at casting! But it is a lot of fun.2 points

I got down to the farm this past Friday to look things over with my hunting partner, and start coming up with plans for what we will be doing. The landowner just bought 150 acres adjoining the one farm, so we will have lots to do over there this year in addition to our other plots. We came up with a game plan for what to do on Saturday and called it an evening. Saturday morning, we headed to the farm early in the morning and started by looking for a break in the pasture fence. Next, we got the tractor and 7 foot brush-hog and started clearing out a plot we had begun clearing last summer. We had to cut out a few large thorn apple trees, so we did that and then started discussing how we want to shape the plot. Once we got things pretty much done, we turned our attention to a new horse trail that we had been wanting to put in. We spent the next few hours carving that out. By the time we were done with that, it was time to call it a day. This week we should be getting our herbicide and start spraying the brassica plots, which I would like to till and plant the last weekend of this month. Heres a few pics from the day...2 points

Steve Rinella has good advice in his Complete guide to hunting book... In addition to offering help on the land, another good way to start hunting deer on a property would be to first inquire about hunting small game. A landowner may be more open to you popping a few squirrels or rabbit with a .22. Once they see you are responsible (and helpful), they will be more likely to allow deer hunting. Before anyone pounces... I know bow hunting for deer is probably safer and less disturbing than squirrel hunting with a .22... but lots of landowners do not.1 point

Motion detection off, I love the browning strike force elite , I did have three brand new ones just go back to browning all due to taking pics when off. TCP confirmed my results. I am working with trail camera pro and browning to try to resolve the issue. Once resolved I'll be getting another one1 point

I like my pontoon boat because it's smooth and I have young kids. Easy to get in and out. Really need a 90 horse or higher. Mine is 26' and has a 115 and goes 25mph but it's a double decker. Had a 90 on my old 25' that went 25 without an upper deck.1 point

I was driving through a trail on the tractor last weekend when I saw a cub at about 40 yards. I slowed down and grabbed my phone for a quick photo op when Momma Bear stood up and gave me a woof and a stare down. I kept on a-rollin.1 point

When they find themselves feeding on certain crops or food sources, I'm convinced they will have a preferred bedding area nearby for that location. There are features of certain bedding areas that they prefer involving cover, wind currents, visibility, escape features. But I also am sure there are many places in the woods, thickets and brush-lots that provide those features and not just one special spot.1 point
