  1. Heard lots of shots in my area of northern Columbia county (4u). My nephew missed a spike, twice. Said he was shaking too bad. He took a small doe later in the morning, and seen a dozen or more deer on the neighbors property thats off limits. Walking in yesterday morning a few minutes after legal , I see several deer about 100yrds out running around. Binoculars showed two smaller bucks chasing a doe. They were in and out of the field several times before they ran into the scrub for good. Had a BB walk past 3 times with his nose to the ground grunting trying to figure out where those deer went to. Buddy across the road had 10 does, fawns in the thick stuff. Only deer he could get a clear shot on was a spike, which he passed. Afternoon hunt I went in the same blind and had several does, fawns and a spike milling around in the brush. Took this doe with one ear and half a tail.

  4. Got invited to go out on Champlain to troll for salmon and lakers. Went out 7:30-2:30. Really nice day. The wind died down, we caught fish and grilled bacon wrapped scallops and venison kabobs. Also had homemade cookies and a couple beverages. 15 lakers. Biggest one was about 8lbs. Caught a bunch of nice sized eaters, but didn't keep any. I need to get a smoker set up. 7 salmon. Mostly shakers, but I reeled in fish of the day. 24+" female. She stayed down and never jumped. Released her. Also a couple white perch. The guy who owns the boat took all the pictures. He hasn't sent them to me yet. Good day all in all. His boat is set up with great electronics and a full canvas. It's a true trolling boat with a huge back deck. Hoping to get invited to go again! Heck of a nice day on Champlain!

  6. I always thought shooting downward eliminated concern but I learned that bullets bounce and ricochet like you wouldn’t believe, even when shooting downward. Just an FYI. its actually part of military training for shooters to understand how crazy bullets react. Not criticizing. I was surprised myself.

  9. With a gracious invite from Lomax, got out to hunt in the buckform with him. We didn't tag any deer but had a good time BSing for sure. Even seen some deer but didn't send it, a little far for the muzzleloader. Good day to get out and enjoy a late season hunt and catch up.

  10. Some light snow for the afternoon. Haven’t been out of the house since the 21st. Figured I’d spend a few hours of quarantine in the woods.

  11. The platform is about 9 ft up (those are 8 ft pt landscape timber’s that I bought from Home Depot in the spring for $ 6 each. There is a little bit of blocking below each timber. I only have $12 invested in that blind, because I used an old chair in it that I already had. I had to spend an additional $ 8, on a fancy, adjustable office chair on other new one just like it, that I put up this year. I am not complaining, after shooting two deer off that $ 8 chair. I just saw my first two deer of the Holiday season at 2:15 pm. Rather than walk back along the corn and risk spooking a deer out of it like I did last Saturday, I took the long way around. There were two of them standing on the edge of thick brush “sanctuary” area over on the other back corner. They ran towards the corn and I am “boxed up” in my blind over there now. I had to make quite a racket breaking loose the ice on the windows, to open them, so I think the odds are low that those two will come out. Probably better odds of seeing something than if I had stayed in the house though, because there is still some corn on the stalks back here, unliked the stripped bare ones in my front plot. I put a finger condem over the muzzle to keep the rain out on the way back. Good luck to all those who are still out there.

  12. Watching over a crappy little corn plot this morning from one of the two new blinds that I put up this year. I have not had any action out of this one yet, but I have been able to kill a bb and a BB from the one that I put up over at my parents place, about 20 miles away. I am saving my better corn plot out back for this afternoon. I planted that one a couple weeks earlier and it has more then double the yield of the one I am watching now. It was still holding lots of corn (and a deer ) when I was back there last Saturday. I moved a big box blind to the south end of that plot this summer. I made that about 7 years ago, but haven’t killed nothing out of it yet. Chances of that ought to be good this afternoon. I don’t expect much this morning, but this sure is a comfortable open top blind. I will have to try and do a better job with the food plots around it next year.

  17. I haven't checked in in a while, mostly because there's nothing to report. I've been out a few time with the smokepole over the past few weeks but haven't seen anything. Come to think of it, I haven't seen a deer while hunting since shooting that lame young buck the day after thanksgiving. Weather, work, and family time has kept me away from the woods recently, so I'm definitely not putting in as much time as I was back in bow season. I was driving in to the office this morning and saw at least 6 deer, no less than 5 of which were bucks, about .5 miles from my office. I drive through Durand Eastman park to get here and the place is loaded with deer. One of the bucks I saw was a nice mature 8 point walking though a clearing not 20 feet off the road around 8am. His horns were heavy and about as wide as my shoulders. I hope to get out again on Friday for one last chance at a doe before the season ends.

  20. Since you are a newbie to hunting I will share some advice. Deer have ever changing patterns that change based on time of year, weather, food sources, pre-rut, rut, post-rut, and hunting pressure. Appreciate differences in any of these from year to year will effect/change the pattern you previously observed. Still go out and observe, but factor in these other variables.

  23. Tomorrow I’m trying for an upstate surf and turf. Hoping to get a salmon through the ice in the am and a deer in the afternoon. A fresh venison heart and salmon filet dinner would be a perfect transition from deer season to ice fishing! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  24. Nice and wet this afternoon, so I took a long slow walk through the pines. Nothing seen. Sat the last hour in my Taj Mahal and stayed warm and dry. Nothing bumped on the way home either. I hope to get out 1 or 2 afternoons this week, and hopefully Saturday too.

  28. Smoked this matriarch on the 23rd. Easily the biggest doe I've ever seen. Her head was longer than my boot! Can't wait to see way her teeth age out as. She was a hard fought deer and a great way to end my season and retire my bow with. My first deer ever with that bow was a doe. This year I was able to not only kill my first coyote with that bow but also finish it's career as my primary with a doe. Seems very fitting and full circle. https://www.instagram.com/thejerkman #JerkmanCustoms #WeDemandUnlimitedLikes

  29. I got the call today to pic up my mount anytime I want. My taxidermist finished it a few months ago but kept it on display during the hunting season. He said it was a big hot with the guys dropping their animals off.

  30. Took my nephew on a charter a few months ago and he caught a bonito. I saved the tail, dried it and mounted it to a puck since he’s obsessed with hockey. He doesn’t know about it and I’ll give it to him on Christmas.

  32. It will be a very long wait time for the Pro - allocations to dealers are going to be sold before they hit lots for the first few months at a minimum and it likely drags on for the first year. Any that hit lots unsold will probably be over MSRP for a while too. I asked specifically when I bought my wife's Prime last week as I am considering the Tundra Pro too. The owner of the dealership (who sold me the Prime) let me know they didn't even get allocated a Pro at all...and they're in a military town where they have newer soldiers with money to burn against high APRs. They have an SR5 on the lot decked out and it is nice but the Pro is a different beast.

  33. Love the raptor ... that Toyota looks freaking awsome . I'm more on practicality. Truck to haul stuff. Point a to b . As I drive 50 miles a day mileage means alot . Some of you may laugh but I opted for the high end interior power everything then deleted carpet for rubber interior. Makes clean up easier and I won't have to spend time getting the dog hair out of the seats and carpets . As well as mud and sand from fishing . At mid 50's I'm not worried about 0 to 60 mph as much as how it will haul my trailer and tractor . 4×4 is a must for snow travel as I sometimes go to work at 3 am and the plow truck drivers have yet to get out my way. My son had a Toyota tundra . I drove it a few times and I loved it, damn fine truck . He bought his while stationed in Texas. The thing on the Toyota is local dealer service sucks . I will call it what it is. They are crooks. Unnecessary repairs .

  35. Just like the raptors, with a twin turbo as soon as the tuners get ahold of it, it will be just as fast if not faster than the TRX for less than $1500. Nice truck.

  39. Did a sit from 2:00 to 5, first time in the stand with a bow, not a deer in site. Being a noobie to hunting I decided I am going to be tracking deer hardcore in Stuart once we get our first snow fall. I need to understand their patterns, see a deer bed, just be around them more in general.

  44. Just bumped a decent buck and another deer as I was looking for a three to climb. Hope to see some deer this PM. Lots of fresh deer tracks in the atv tracks, so maybe the atv got them moving and I just missed 'em. Oh well , beautiful day to be in the woods anyway. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk

  46. I tried to get on the board today. Ran into a big problem up here if the road is seasonal stay off it lol. I thought for sure I was going to slide off one of those cliffs. I was trying to get to a little stream I had luck in this year. After getting back on the pavement I saw this stream and took a few cast, but I wasn’t sure if it was private property or not so I left. Beautiful place though. Big storm tomorrow will see what happens afterwards Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
