I believe the importance of ethical shots will be stressed. I know these two trackers and they discuss that with hunters, as do I.6 points

Come on no one said that he was no longer a threat but even the expert witness on trial (the man has trained cops since the 70's) indicated that once a person is cuffed the threat is significantly decreased. I saw no threat in that video to those cops. The cops need to listen to people and de escalte a situation, the guy was obviously claustrophobic and anxious, had they just took him out of that car, instead of trying to shove and push him in the car even after he was pleading with them. The cops should have just kept the hand cuffs on and sat him on the curb to calm the situation, things would have ended differently. I say murder, he intended to kill that guy, at what point was the cop going to take his knee off? Kept his knee on for a few extra minutes even when Floyd was motionless (dead).4 points

I picked up a Quaker Boy box call recently, it's been a long time and I don't remember box calls being so loud. I guess I got used to the more subtle tones from pot calls. I was wondering if anyone has ever put a coat of stain on a box call? It's unfinished so I would like to add something to the exterior as a way to protect the call from splitting or cracking in changing weather conditions.3 points

Picked up a new 22in black stone griddle for camping. Man what have I been missing . I don't think I'd go back to grilling on the coleman road trip grill again . Just got done seasoning the griddle, I'll make the family a nice breakfast in the morning2 points

Many years ago, I had Quaker Boy box call. It was originally a bit high pitched for my taste. So I applied just a bit of Thompsons clear, water seal with a rag, using just my index finger. Only a light coat on the top, sides and bottom. Nothing inside! After applying the sealer, it mellowed it out very nicely, and became one of my favorite calls. I still have it somewhere?2 points

Rob....I have never stained or otherwise treated any of my box calls, so I can't answer your question regarding whether doing so would affect the sound.. However, it has been largely a non-issue with me, since I never recall having any of my boxes get soaking wet, and I have several that are over 50 years old... I either keep them in a water resistant pocket or in a plastic bag....If they get damp I dry them gently at room temp...Never had an issue with warping or cracking..2 points

As blood trackers, our primary reason for being there is to help recover the deer, if possible. But.....we always try to educate on the benefit of taking a high percentage shot. Not talk down to anyone, but try to educate where it may be appropriate. As hunters, we all know that at some point in our hunting careers, something can and probably will go wrong. It is absolutely, without a doubt, the worst feeling a deer hunter can experience! When for whatever reason, a wounded deer can not be found. That is where a trained dog and handler, can be the difference between a lost deer, or a recovered one. The average percentage for recovery, for even an experienced team is usually only about 35%. Because many times the deer is simply not dead. Perhaps it will recover to be seen again? Perhaps not? There are so many factors to a bloodline, and no two are exactly the same. But being part of the dog human team, working together to put the pieces of the recovery puzzle together. To find another hunters deer, is as rewarding, if not more so than shooting one yourself. It takes a dedicated individual to become certified, train and certify a dog, or dogs. And to "volunteer" your time and resources, to help other hunters! There is never enough to fill the void for tracking calls. Perhaps a show like this will inspire some new tracker teams? I hope so. Great thread Tom!!2 points

What are you talking about? This isn’t a political debate about fraught disagreements on race and justice. This is a shitty cop committing homicide without instigation but with a smirk.2 points

That’s the key. Those who try to normalize this type of malignant behavior cast a shadow on the good cops that are truly serving their community.2 points

Normally if called in and spooked, missed, they will tend to be a little call shy in that area. As far as walking around after noon time, you take the risk of bumping a hen off her nest. But if it's a new area, it would be the best time. Like deer, turkeys know if your hunting or just walking around especially if people walk around that area frequently.1 point

I think he isn’t, with the pressured narrative by the media the fact that they’ve showed the jury’s face is enough to sway their decision. FACTS, as you like to say. “The cops messed up big time.” You literally can’t mess up and commit murder, thanks for proving my point. Have a good day I’m heading gun shopping. Ouch. That's a long read for 7:30 in the morning. While I strongly disagree with some of the opinions here, I respect others' rights to offer them. More and more, I think that I'd rather know clearly where somebody stands than listen to them say one thing but live another. I suspect everybody gets what I'm talking about. And to directly address the comment regarding blood oxygen saturation being 98% - to my understanding, this was measured in the emergency room following artificial ventilation. As regards carbon monoxide levels - CO binds irreversibly to hemoglobin. Any CO in the bloodstream would have prevented a return to normal O2 saturation levels even upon ventilation (which was the essence of Tobin's rebuttal testimony). So yes, 98% is "normal", but in this case it simply suggests that the hemoglobin was functional and capable of binding O2, it doesn't say what the saturation levels were during the event. However, since a ventilator was deemed to be required, the patient was certainly hypoxic. This says nothing about the cause however, and that's the crux of the argument.1 point

Alright,I will play and let you in on my mission. I am supposed to locate Bible thumping farmers that can shoot a deer through the rear because mein Fuehrer wants to use those genetics for a few experiments. Doesn't matter that if they don't look very Arian, we can fix that in the lab. But seriously, my mission in this world is to enlighten everyone I come into contact with. Hahahaaha,is it working?1 point

I’ll have to try a holster specific style belt for the next IWB holster I try. So far I’m 0-2 on them being comfortable. I mostly pocket carry my .380 anyways but I’d probably carry the 9 more often if it was comfortable. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point

So my point is, this is a hunting forum. You specifically have clearly stated your impassioned case. Unfortunately the people you disagree with are still going to disagree no matter what you say. In turn what happens is these posters will not respond or just troll you on most of your topics now. This takes away from what we can learn from each other about hunting and things that should pertain to this website. This website because of topics like this is taking a downward turn. You knew what you were getting into with this thread and now your being pretty aggressive because your not winning people over. It is what is it why not move on? I respect what your saying but I think topics like these do nothing but negative for this forum, which sucks in my opinion. Also I realize attacks go both ways.1 point

The officer on trial has had 20 complaints filed against him in the last 19 years . Is that a normal amount ? I wonder what reason they were filed ?1 point

What an odd comment , they’ve always tried to weed those types out, what with an 8 hour psychological test administered by a DR , being just one component. I ve run thousands of calls with cops , tons of shootings ,ods hangings , stabbing , you name it , over all very very few I thought were AH or out of line . These were the spotless high scoring ones, how do think the ,” I got a 70, and they’re waving my misdemeanor “ ones will preform ?1 point

I don't think any country wants to finance their way through a world war. But I would expect Russia to make a move on the Ukraine for a land grab. Heck they've massed enough armament on the border now to pull it off this weekend. They annexed Crimea a few years ago and that US administration did squat about it. If I was in charge of Russia, I'd feel pretty emboldened about that. Ukraine is not a member of NATO.1 point

Which vaccine did you get, and were the side effects worse from the first or second shot ? I had only the first (Phizer), with no side effects whatsoever. They were also very efficient at the Walgeens, across the road from Jerry F's old Mobile station, on County and Transit. I got there 15 minutes before my appointment and was out at about the time my shot was scheduled (short ride home and I felt ok so I skipped the 15 minute post-shot wait). I was home for dinner 5 minutes after my scheduled shot time. I hope the same nurses are there when I go back for the second shot in May. They were spectacular.1 point

Halloween Morning of 2020 my 15yr old stepson lost his sanity, and became the next human to endure mature whitetail madness, and there's no looking back.. Been trying to teach him how to hunt appropriately and where to find bucks and why.. Now, After receiving his mount from WNY, he can see the true beauty in a quality Whitetail mount. Thank you sir1 point
