Thanks. No not gut. If you look close you can see it’s in the front, probably hit him a little forward and single lung. It’s bleeding out of both sides.

I hope he is not gut shot, I went through that on opening day my hunting partner's son got buck fever during witching hour and mis-took a spike I passed on in the morning for a 4 pointer. We were out in the woods until 11pm competing with a bobcat following that blood trail. Finally recovered, gutted. That guy will remember that mistake for the rest of his life...

Around 9 I had A big buck with a very dark rack  step out. I waited Until he was in a shooting lane and pulled the trigger. He face planted and then got up and took off into some thick stuff. It looked like a good hit, so I went To see the spot where I shot Him. Found 6 places where he had fallen down and was bleeding heavy. Ended up tracking about 300 yards and decided to back out. Now I’m sitting at home driving myself nuts. My brother in law is going to come over in an hour or two and we will get back on the trail. Here’s a pic of one of the spots I found. I should Have backed out immediately but I didnt Think he would go far. I’m pretty sure this buck is one of the big 10s I’ve had around here. If it’s not him, it’s another big 8 I’ve seen. Those are the only 2 with really dark racks.

Last update for the night. I got Permission from the landowner to continue the track. He has a large property and allows no hunting, so my buck should be safe from people in there. We pushed him a long way today and after watching him in the ravine, I really Think he’s gonna lay up and die if we leave him be. It’s gonna be a sleepless night, but I’ll be back after him in the morning.

Best of luck dude!

Here’s one of his beds. This was one of 8 beds. We found about 35 to 40 places where he fell down and bled even more than this. The blood goes down 3+ inches into the snow in the beds.

May be a brisket shot also. They bleed like a mother when hit there. Sounds like he’s hurting. Hopefully he beds for the night and you can at least catch him in it in the morning. Good luck WNY.

Reminds me of one about 5 years ago with gun, shot him on the run, in the snow, broke his back left leg.  He kept rolling in the snow to try and clot it or something.  It also smashed that major artery that runs along the femur?  Big top leg bone, shattered.  He must have bedded 30 times before I caught up and put him down.

No signal from the stand I was in. Got out at 2:00. Get all situated and drop my glasses overboard into the snow. Thought briefly about leaving them til later,  but then thought better of it. Out of the harness, down the ladder and grab the glasses. Whoops, little eight point looking at me from 75 yds. I play statue for a few minutes and scrambled back up the ladder while his head was behind a big tree. Dumb little guy hung around for another hour.

Had six does meander through at 4:00 but around 4:25, I watched 11 deer pour into the cornfield from the neighboring wood lot at about 150 yds, with the last three being bucks. The last one definitely had a decent rack, but it was getting late, snowing, and I just couldn't judge it well. That last buck came out around 4:55, but I watched it through the scope until it disappeared into the corn.

I'm feeling better with the big uptick in sightings and everyone saw deer today. However no deer have met their demise here yet this rifle season.

Since you have permission and won't sleep anyhow, why not grab a lantern and go now ?  Are there coyotes in the area ?

Day three, still no deer seen, by either of us. No fresh tracks now either. I think the deer have left us. Really tough season so far.

No worries, there is a lot of season left and you still have your buck tag.  Sooner or later they got to come out for food.

Zippo deer in the thick stiff tonight . Told my wife I’m now hunting the morning , they cross in front of my green hut each morning ,should have a doe by 7:30.

She said I’m panicking  ,I’ve been seeing tons of deer in bow and opening weekend , I can always shoot  a doe at the end if need be . Guess she’s right I was leaving it from Sunday AM to Wed pm when my daughter goes again ,getting her one is #1 priority.

Aliens?  That's a rather abrupt change.  Hang tough, you'll get on them.

I'm going to speculate a low forward shot that probably broke his front leg but didn't enter the chest cavity much. That would explain the falling and they do bleed pretty good but can go a looong ways. Below lungs/heart possibly. Blood on snow can often be deceiving also, hopefully he loses enough blood and beds up and gets too weak to stand.

Exactly what I’m thinking. He lost a ton of blood today and was very weak when we saw him in the ravine. That’s why I didnt Want to push it anymore. Hopefully I can Sneak in tomorrow morning and either find him dead or kill him in his bed.

Good luck tomorrow! If you have extra help tracking and know the lay of the land at all ,maybe you could post up a watcher or two at a likely escape rt..

Hello everyone I’m currently looking at a house in deposit ny I’ve been deer hunting for many year mainly in Columbia and Greene county never been to Broome county. Before anything I was just curious how is the hunting there ? I know there aren’t any antlered restrictions in Broome but are there monsters out there or is it mainly just small spike? If anyone from that county or knows about deposit and broome county would get back to me i would appreciate it. Hope everyone hunting today catch a big one thanks.

The procedure below to carry the bow is detailed below:
You have to use a cotton towel or something similar. You have to wrap it around the bowstring. Doing so ensures that it will not cause an injury with the bowstring coming in contact with your body. It will not be that sharp either. Once you cover the bowstring with the towel, you have to wear it like a sling. So that it will not fall away from your body. The best way to cover the bowstring is to use a large enough towel. You can wrap it around twice as well. When making a sling out of the cotton towel, you have to ensure that you tighten it to get a snug fit. In that case, it will not slip away. Consequently, it will remain in place. When using this technique to carry a bow on your back, it is essential to practice before going in the wilderness. Only when you can move briskly and without noise using the scanning mechanism should you go ahead with it. To remove the bow, you have to hold it at the bottom. After that, you have to slip it over your head as well as arm. Doing so ensures that you can remove it quickly. When trying to focus on a prey, you need to remove the bow quickly. The technique for removal that we have highlighted above can certainly help you do so.

Just want to relay an experience I had this weekend regarding hunting regulations and other hunters.
I've had several  hunter's tell me last weekend(10/12/2020) that muzzleloader was open, it is not. I also had two other hunters last weekend confront me as to why my son was carrying around a rifle and hunting deer. I calmly explained the youth weekend and the rules around it. After that everything was cool and we continued our hunt.
I know at the end of the day we're all trying to participate in a sport we love and maybe harvest some game. My thought is to just make sure you're up on your local hunting regulations. Not just so you are within the rules, but also so you can assert your right to be where you are, hunting the way you're hunting.
I know when I have been operating outside of the regulations I have appreciated a person respectfully correcting my ignorance and I try to pay it forward by being informed and respectfully educating when required.
Thanks for listening, off my SB...

      Hello,
I am in the process of purchasing my first rifle to go hunting deer for the first time.  However, I have received contradicting information regarding the types of rifles that are legal.  Based on what I have read, it appears that I am able to use a bolt-action rifle with a pistol grip and a detachable magazine which holds 10 rounds.  However, I have been told that this is not the case. I can't seem to find where this is stated.  Can any one here provide me with some insight into this? I'd really appreciate it.
      Thanks in Advanced,
      Alfredo
