  1. Shot a nice doe this morning around 8:45……..she dressed out at 125# I don’t like to post lousy pictures like this. I MUCH prefer a field photo before gutting but my phone was out of juice.

  2. Bejeezus take you pissy ass caliber argument out of our from the field thread! I want to read about people out hunting. Not that crap. Beautiful morning out wind died down and a dust of snow. Deer don’t agree yet… did have a grey Fox in three times scavenging the gut pile from Thursday. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  3. I wasn't gonna go out at all today and didn't really. I was on my way to our barn to clean the horse stalls and saw a group of does on the field,140 yds away. I changed course and got my muzzleloader and snuck after them. They worked their way up the hill into another overgrown field and the winds really helped me keep after them. I picked out a good one just as one of them bolted and fired, about 85 yd shot. They all took off and I started tracking pretty quickly. Found hair at the hit site and sparse blood a little further down the trail. They disappeared over a crest and I decided to go at least to there and see if I couldn't see the doe from there. I got up there and followed a little further and there she was, made it maybe a little over 100 yds total. Double lung shot with no ruined meat. I will take a picture when I have her hanging. She is about medium size, good enough for me. Meat in the freezer,I was getting a little nervous. Now I would like one more but would not be upset if I don't get another.

  6. Now Andrew, God had blessed me with far more deer than anyone needs in my first 9 years of hunting. I am fine with a bit of a pause this year while other things take priority. Just get the freaking Yote call ready. Lol

  12. No matter what crazy things happen in the woods. We often think we see one thing but find out another. Shot placement is key no matter what the caliber size is.

  13. You guys are great, thank you so much for all the advice. I went to flying arrows today with a budget of 1500. Dave no longer works there but I still received great help. They had 2 bows in my price range, a Hoyt and a Bowtech. After testing them both I chose the 2021 Bowtech Carbon Zion Compound. I have a 29" draw length and 60lb draw weight. I forget the type of arrows, I think something with a v1 350? All I remember is that it was 175 for a dozen. Still haven't chosen my release or broadheads yet. Again, thank you all. You have been great.

  19. Former Republican Senator Bob Dole, who passed away this week at the age of 98, included in his farewell letter a playful jab at the Democratic Party. "As I make the final walk on my life’s journey, I do so without fear. Because I know that I will, again, not be walking alone," Dole said in a farewell letter that was read by his daughter Robin at his funeral in Washington, D.C. on Friday. "I know that God will be walking with me," the late senator wrote. "I also confess that I’m a bit curious to learn and find if I am correct in thinking that heaven will look a lot like Kansas and to see, like others who have gone before me, if I will still be able to vote in Chicago."

  20. Eventful morning in Columbia county…spike in the winter rye got a pass and after he walked in the woods he moved a doe who had a big brow buck right in tow. No shot available. They then kicked 10+ doe/Fawns away from me and across a field where I assume the doe and buck followed Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  22. lol stop it. He was napping. I’d bet my life savings he works less hours than any president in history. Your boys Obama and Clinton went. Even Joe went in 2012 as VP. Helen Hunt can predict tornadoes but we can’t yet. Below is his schedule before any tornadoes hit. “The president’s public schedule for Saturday is empty after Biden and his wife, first lady Jill Biden, traveled to their home in Wilmington, Delaware, on Friday night for the weekend.” EDIT: and And speaking of TV time, was Biden on Jimmy Fallon last night? It appears so Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

  24. We’ll, I’m one happy hunter today. Put up with the wind and rain all day (minus an hour and a half to go cut a tree with my wife), bumped at least two during my walk before I came upon four. Two crashed off 15 yards to my left but the two on my right didn’t know what was going on and they walked closer. At ten yards I dropped the one that stopped broadside. My nephew and his wife are going to be very happy since my freezer is full.

Then at 4 i came around a lrg tree and there was an 8 point laying down about 40 yrds from me never saw me cause of all the wind up there. I put the scope on him and then he saw me and stood but still didn't know what was going on. Nice 8 but needs another yr so he got lucky. Be seeing you nxt yr bud lol

  26. Nothing... A little disappointed, but still have muzzleloader to look forward to. I guess the one good thing about not shooting a buck with my bow is that now I have a buck tag for muzzleloader. Trying to find the bright side of a sucky bow season, I guess.

  29. I still have buck tags but haven't hunted since Thanksgiving day. If I truly only cared about trophies I wouldn't shoot does at all and I'd still be out there looking for a buck? You keep alluding to me having a terrible season when in reality it was probably my best, even without having tagged any antlers. I had a lot of opportunities to kill bucks and some pretty good ones that I let go, that in itself is a win for me. But again, you keep saying how sympathetic you are to me (which I highly doubt is sincere in the slightest) is just another backdoor way of you nipping at heels. I couldn't care less? I know that when you look for a specific age class buck you are going to go some years antler less and I'm ok with it. My goal is always to end up with 3 deer for venison and I did that quite easily this season so I have nothing to complain about... Sent from my moto g fast using Tapatalk

  34. Funny how the person that wrote the article didn't have the balls to put there name on it or open it to comments.I think the hunting is pretty decent here, not bragging but I put 2 bucks in p/y and didn't enter a third all from state land every year we see very impressive bucks taken, plus for me it's more then just deer hunting. I for one love it here in New York[politics aside].I retired last month and could go anywhere I want too. After looking around every state has it's own problems.I can't stand heat so I never even looked south.Tornado's and flooding no thanks droughts I'll pass. I only own 10 acers and my taxes don't even break a $1000 a year.I'll leave it at that I don't want to stomp on this thread.

  35. All I know is that I've been hunting in NY for 2 years now, and have been successful both years. The bucks I see aren't near what they were in my native Illinois, but I've never been a trophy hunter. So far I'm pleased with my time in the woods in NY. That is a nice little advertisement for "The Ox Ranch in Texas" though. I read it's a haven for out of state hunters, whatever that means.

  36. Is that another pic of that “Big” buck? That so called 100 pound button buck would be the pic to continue showing every post if -“Big” is what your trying to show? Won’t be holding any breath for that one either.

  38. Still out here at the house. Generator still just humming away. I made sure to clear it with my wife that leaving for hunting is ok which of course she doesn’t mind at all. Probably a bonus of having an automatic generator she doesn’t have to worry about anything when the power comes back on the generator shuts itself off. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  42. It's a simple question of hitting vitals I think you mean. If she had hit lungs you would have found that deer, even with no blood trail. I'd put money on it. I get what you're saying about a bigger hole, but it's not the caliber's fault if she didn't make the shot.

  46. A question. Say 10 years from now we look closely at all the statistics and actually see how many lives we actually saved because of these lockdowns and mandates. Its a harsh way of looking at it but many of the people that have died were not going to survive that many more years anyways. It is a fact that we have lost more people lost to covid than what would have normaly lived on. It is also a fact that there has been a rise in suicides, overdoses, and other cause because of the poorer quality of life. Many family businesses that are ruined and may have provided a good life for their family down the road. People have lost things that they will never get back. Like time spent with a loved one in their last days. Many things that are hard to quantify. Absolutely no one in the main stream media or in control want to address, so we will never really know . IMO we have and will continue to lose way more than what we possibly may have gained.

  48. Thanks for all the congratulations. I saw the weather forecast and was hoping the deer would be moving before the storm. I got out late and jumped 3 doe on the way in. I decided to sit in the big stand just to let everything settle down. I was there for 30 minutes, but my brain kept telling me to move to the south side of the property. I packed up and still hunted over to the south. I found two fresh scrapes 6' away from each other and decided to sit near the scrapes. I was only there 15 minutes, and I could smell the musk in the air. He walked out 20 yards in front of me and that was it. It has been a tough season for a lot of us. Stay positive and trust your instincts. #from the ground

  49. Here’s how bad the hunting pressure is on state land. Yesterday after I got done hunting on the land, I hunt stopped hunting at 11. I took a ride over to two WMA’s Rattlesnake hill and Keeney swamp just to see what’s going on. Rattlesnake I saw 6 cars that’s on almost 10000 acres if you include the 2-state forest and the county land. I also went there on opening at about noon and saw 14 cars there. At Keeney yesterday on both the lower and upper roads there were 0 cars at 1230. That’s a lot of hunting pressure! I’m glad the guy doesn’t know how good the hunting can be here. If you read the whole article, he also doesn’t like cold weather either. Forgot to add over the last 4 years or so most of the bucks killed in the state were 2.5 years or older.
